Advantages: high in vitamins, low in calories, greatly versatile and wonderfully tasty
Disadvantages: Battery eggs are cruel and low quality
When I was younger I used to hate eggs, couldn't see the point of them in anyway, now they are possibly one of the most integral parts of my kitchen and vitally important especially in these credit crunch times.
The idea of battery raised chicken eggs is one which is not appealing to most people nowadays, the cruelty involved makes people not wish to purchase such eggs. Many more people are eating free range and prices are dropping as these become much more popular, some supermarkets are also looking to completely phase out battery chicken eggs due to the ethical problems.
Eggs are great for a diet, they provide Vitamin B and D and are low in calories, they also provide Iron and Zinc and are a great asset to anyone going out for the day.
You can boil eggs and eat them as they are, scramble them as part of a breakfast, you can break some eggs, mix them up, add some chilli, oregano or whatever you prefer and make an ommelette, add bacon, sausage, pepper and leave in the frying pan to cook, then place under the grill and you've got a delicious Fritata meal.
I also use egg whites to make meringues, eggs for cakes and buns and think they are one of the greatest most versatile cooking tools.
Eggs are cheap at around £1.50 for a dozen and provide the option for a snack, a garnish, a full meal or as a cooking ingredient.
A vital part of any meal for health and wealth reasons, go to work on an egg!
Summary: An Incredibly Versatile food option
