Advantages: almost as good as proper cream

Disadvantages: ?

Elmlea Double cream substitute is a unilever product. I have bought this several times over the past years. It has been available since 1984.
One of the reasons I buy this substitute cream is that it lasts a long time, unopened in the fridge it lasts about 8 weeks, opened lasts a 5 days so ideal to keep there just in case you need it.
You can buy this in many supermarkets / convenience stores , in Tesco’s it costs 67p for a284ml tub .As well as the double cream substitute there is a single cream available too.
Elmlea cream comes in a tub that is white with blue writing and design on it..
Open the foil lid and dip your spoon into the thick liquid. It looks a creamy yellow white colour smells well “milky” If you wish you could pour this straight onto your strawberries or you can whip it. If you wish you can cook with it. I am not a great lover of cream poured over pies or fruit but I do like some whipped on my scones and strawberry jam
I f you want to whip it, it is better if you remover it from fridge 20 minutes before whipping. If you wish to freeze it whip it then freeze it.

Elmlea substitute cream is a blend of buttermilk and vegetable oils. 100ml contains 124 k cal the same double cream contains 449 kcal so less guilt here ladies and gents. This cream substitute is suitable for vegetarians, do check the label though if you have food intolerances.

You can use Elmlea anywhere in any dish that needs cream, Wont be long before British strawberry time now (yeah I know strawberries in Tesco but they are Spanish grown under hideous plastic tunnel / greenhouses which both mar the view in the Costa in Spain and have been grown on land which was good for wildlife so I never buy them? (They do not taste as nice as some British varieties anyway)) So get stocked up, in anticipation.
This is a good substitute for real cream not quite as good but it tastes so much like real cream you would get away witth serving this to anyone except real coinoseurs and snobs .
Hope we get lots of sunny summer days to eat this cream with our strawberries, Mary

Summary: substitute cream less caloriesx

I prefer fresh cream, but used to have this for emergencies. Having high cholesterol I don't often indulge now!

Being a cream snob myself I rarely use this - I do have a tub in the fridge ocasionally for 'emergencies' though!

These are very handy to have in as they have great "use by dates" x
