Extra Strong Trebor Gum
Advantages: Slightly cheaper, and nicer than Wrigleys
Disadvantages: Sorbitol can cause effects if consumed too heavily
My friend at work offered me a piece of this chewing gum, and I have to say I enjoy it far more than Wrigleys equivalents. They are owned and made by Cadbury who also produce the Trident range of chewing gums. THe success of Extra Strong Mints by Trebor, or ROBERT if you spell it backwards, has led to the launch of these into the chewing gum sector!
About 35p, and have as yet not seen it in that many places so maybe is it a new product, cos I have never tried it before a few weeks ago!! I have seen it in B and M bargain madness, but not really looked out for it anywhere else. No doubt it is available within supermarkets and confectioners and the like.
The wrapping is paper foil style with an easy open end which stays secure so they do not all fall out in your bag or pocket, I hate it when they get loose and escape all over your bag!!
There is a warning on the back of the packet stating that excessive consumption may produce laxative effects, probably this is due to the containing of the Sorbitol ingredient. Sorbitol is a sugar substitute. It may be listed under the inactive ingredients listed for some foods and products. Sorbitol is referred to as a nutritive sweetener because it provides dietary energy: 2.6 kilocalories (11 kilojoules) per gram versus the average 4 kilocalories (17 kilojoules) for carbohydrates. It often is used in diet foods (including diet drinks and ice cream), mints, cough syrups, and sugar-free chewing gum. (Last part taken from Wikipedia for information purposes).
Each packet contains 10 pieces of sugar free chewing gum. They are in the little white pellet format rather than the long strips such as Wrigleys do.
2 flavours are available, spearmint and peppermint. As yet I have only had the spearmint but I will be looking out for peppermint.
The little white pellets have a crunchy white coating. One small pellet is quite enough for chewing.
Taste pretty sweet but lovely and spearminty, and the flavour is long lasting and I think heavily rivals Wrigleys, they have come up with a really decent gum here and one I will certainly be purchasing more from now on.
The sweetness does fade but I think this is a good thing and you are left with the mint, I am a huge fan of spearmint anyway, but now I may seek the peppermint ones as I enjoy the spearmints so much.
In summary, pick these up as a change from Wrigleys, they are lovely!!
Summary: 10 out of 10, they are wonderful!
