I've always been a bit partial to Trebor's Extra Strong Mints so when I saw they had brought our a similar chewing gum I thought I'd have to give it a go. Now this was a while weeks back when I first saw the advertisement on TV and it has taken me this long to source some of this gum. I eventually found it for 37p in ASDA and although at first slightly disappointed I soon changed my mind.
Trebor XXX Gum
The packaging is very similar to that of the mints being that it is red a white with the Trebor logo emblazoned acrross it. The packaging was quite nice nothing extravagant just a basic package giving all the info required.
The disappointment was brought about by the size of the packet, well to be exact the size of each piece of gum. It is shaped in the traditional way for chewing gums of this type in that it is a small oblong block about 2mm high 2mm wide and perhaps 12mm long. Not a bad size but definitely a little smaller than the standard size. I mean this isn't exactly a big problem but it was kind of a let down. This was soon a mere distant memory as I tasted the first pieace.
I was expecting it to be minty being that extra strong mints a quite strong and I can barely finish a whole one. After the initial crunch into the crispy coating, and the gum itself I was rewarded with a blast of almost pure mint. This was to intensify over the next few seconds before mellowing slightly to the bearable point. I didn't find much difference in the actual chewiness of the gum being that it's chewing gum you'd expect it to be chewy. The flavour did last some considerable time although in this process it did become a lot milder than that of the first minty hit.
There are 10 pieces in each pack making each piece just over 3p and I guess in this day and age of overpriced goods that 3p might well be one of the better spent 3p I have had the pleasure to part company with. I really enjoyed the sharp minty gum and on reflection feel that had this been the same size as the standard pieces of gum there might just have been too much mint flavour or should that be too strong. All in all it probably is going to be the gum I stick with for a while at least, It's cheaper, has a good strong flavour which lasts, and probably more important I like it a lot.
Summary: very nice gum
