Fabulous Fudge Company - Dairy Free Fudge

Description: Manufacturer: Fabulous Fudge Company / Type: Sweets

... was somewhere between the two - it has a fairly crumbly and almost grainy texture in parts, but also manages the slightly chewy texture that you get in some Devon fudge. Crucially, it is not chewy enough that it will pull your fillings out (though it is sufficiently sugary that you may gain a few if you don't brush your teeth afterwards)! I'd classify this as having a fairly upmarket home-made feel to it. In terms of flavour, it has an odd almost slightly aniseed-like tang to it as you pop it in your mouth, but th...more

Premium Review Fabulous Fudge Company - Dairy Free Fudge: You Would Swear This Was Made From The Milk Of A Jersey Cow! (690 words)

Being vegetarian never excludes me from indulging in a delicious piece of fudge from time to time, but it does mean that my daughter who is vegan is excluded from these little treats, because she does not eat any dairy food at all. Its really funny in our house as I have two daughters both at uni. One an almost qualified, but vegetarian vet student called me up last night to tell me how she had fallen in love with a herd of Jersey cows on a remote Yorkshire farm, the other a vegan wouldn't want to go anywhere near the farm, Jersey cows or not. So finding them treats to enjoy together is tricky, but this fudge will delight them both for reasons I will explain ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Vegan fudge - not made with vegan cows (664 words)

I gather from my vegan friends that one of the hardest things to give up is fudge and toffee, because there are so few convincing equivalents available. In part, this lack of availability is because so many vegan products are aimed at living extremely healthy and environmentally sound lifestyles and, let's face it, fudge is not going to be very high on the healthy food list. I'm a vegetarian and not actually a vegan myself, but I buy a lot of vegan products because dairy is bad for the asthma. And whilst I generally like to live healthily, I believe in moderation and occasional "treats", so this product was ideal for me. This vegan fudge ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Fabulous Fudge Company - Dairy Free Fudge: Dairy Free Fudge... but does it taste like real fudge? (354 words)

I came across this Dairy Free Fudge while shopping in Holland & Barratt. Being lactose intolerant means I miss out on a number of delicious food items, so when I come across dairy free items I have to try them out. The Fabulous Fudge Company's Dairy Free Fudge comes in a yellow plastic package showing the Fabulous Fudge Company logo along with the words "Dairy Free Fudge - Handcrafted". There is a clear window in the packet so you can see the fudge and it really does look like real fudge! But the real question is... Does it taste like real fudge? Well, I opened the packet and took out a piece of dairy free fudge. I carefully ...  Read the complete review

You don't know how much I would like to be writing a rave review about this fudge but the truth is I was hugely disappointed when I ate a piece. I do love tasty, sweet vegan treats and I'd been eyeballing a packet of this in my local health shop but as it was quite expensive - well over £3, I wondered if it was worth it. Finally, I snapped and bought some at a local vegan fair at Christmas; it was a seasonal pigging out treat and I savoured the moment of opening. I liked the packaging (well I should do I've been looking at it for so long). It looked quite classy with its golden and green labelling and clear window to look longingly ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Fabulous Fudge Company - Dairy Free Fudge: Mmmm, gritty blocks of brown sugar (403 words)

When somebody goes off on holiday in the UK I wrongfully expect two out of three things from them. Most importantly is a postcard. Then a stick of rainbow coloured rock or if they go to Devon some of their clotted cream fudge. This was what I received from somebody who I thought was a friend! It looks as though it should taste nice. Although each piece does not have the slightly smooth and glowing texture which I associate with nice fudge, it still has the right colour even if it does feel a bit gritty. The bag in which I received these little morsels was a bit different from the one in the picture-green rather than orange and although they were not ...  Read the complete review
