Advantages: Excellent consistency - really spreads well! Rich in healthy oils.

Disadvantages: Not as healthy as you might think... and quite pricey!

I bought a tub of this Flora Buttery with my weekly shop last week because it was on offer - half price at 84p. It's got 70% less fat than butter, and is ideal for spreading, freezing, and all types of cooking (which is good because some spreads say you can't use them for frying).

It comes in a nice 500g yellow tub, I think that is the only size they do as I couldn't see a bigger one.

On my first use of the spread, my initial opinions were that it has a nice creamy yellow colour, and it spreads extremely well. I find with other butters that they can be a bit on the hard side, and when you spread them on your bread you end up scraping half the bread into the butter! But that was not the case with this Flora - the butter glided over the bread effortlessly without so much as dislodging a single crumb.

Taste wise its very yummy - I only have a thin scraping of butter on my bread so can never really taste it, but even with a small amount of Flora you get a hint of the rich buttery-ness.

Here's where the downside comes in though - even though it is made by Flora, which we all assume to be healthier and lower in calories than other butters - it's not. I compared the Flora to a tub of regular "I Can't Believe Its Not Butter" and the Flora actually (very slightly) came off worse.

Here's the facts as stated on the Flora tub:

Per 10g serving:
Calories: 63
Sugars: 0.1
Fat: 7g (ouch!)
Saturates: 1.6g
Salt: 0.2g

The "I Can't Believe Its Not Butter" actually had fewer calories per 10g, and the rest of the nutrition groups were about the same. However the Flora tub does say that it is made with "Seed Oils" which are rich in Heart Healthy Omega 3 and 6. So I guess although the Flora is higher in calories than other spreads, you are getting more good stuff out of it.

Overall I'd recommend this butter - even just for the way it spreads so smoothly!!

Summary: It's good.
