***Background*** I earlier told you how getting a Chocolate Orange in my stocking at Christmas was something that had happened for many years, but that wasn't the only confectionary item that my mum always bought for me. You see I have another passion when it comes to sweets and this time there is no chocolate involved. This tub of delights are a treat from old fashioned sweet shops when you used to be able to go in and get a quarter of a pound for only 20p. With them being so light you got loads and they were always one of my favourites. Nowadays you don't see them so often but they do still seem to appear in shops just before ... flying saucers are a flying saucer shaped sweet which the outside is made of what we think is a thick sugar paper and has sherbert in the middle. Although these are sweets they are not actually sweet but very sour and tangy. When you put one in your mouth onto your tongue the sugar paper on the out side begins to melt, i dont find the paper has much taste to it even though it is coloured and i assume slightly flavoured. Once the paper has began to melt you get a great big fizz of sherbert in your mouth which makes your taste buds jump up and down in a frenzy and then quickly fades away. The sherbert to me tastes fruity and sour ... Read the complete review

mmmm, these really are delicious. They consist of sherbert incased in a coloured wafer the shape of, you guessed it, a U.F.O! Good flying saucers have more E numbers in than you can count, which makes them very good for making small children very hyper. I went on a school trip a couple of months ago, and my mother packed these wonderfull sweets, the tesco value version, for a special treat. On the third day due to a lack of sleep, i felt really down and homesick. I ate the whole packet, and was livly and happy for the rest of the trip. A bit of sugar does wonders for the soul! Most supermarkets do there own brand of these sweets, and they are a favorite with most people, ... Read the complete review

I hate to admit it, but flying saucers are one of my vices. When I moved back to England when I was 13 these were the first sweets I bought, and I was so impressed, and still am to this day. These sweets are cheap, usually on offer for 3 bags for £1. They come in a wide variety of colours and consist of some rice paper stuck together to form a UFO shape and then filled with sherbet. Now the only real way to eat these it to take a bite out of one end, then tip the sherbet into your mouth! From the first bite the rice paper sticks to your tongue and is quite dry, but as soon as the sherbet hits your mouth creates saliva and all is well! My ... Read the complete review

Even though I have a very sweet tooth, flying saucers are probably the item of confectionary I hate the most. I remember trying them as a kid as part of a sweet shop mix and absolutely hating them. Since them, I've had them maybe a couple of times, but only if there are no other options! I don't think they've changed in taste at all over the past few decades. They get their name from the shape, unsurprisingly, but they have a horrible texture like plastic - they are more like a kid's toy than a food item. When you first bite into them, you get a whole bite of plastic - and usually nothing else, as the sherbet (?) inside is usually the last mouthful. ... Read the complete review
