Advantages: delicious sherbert, strawberry flavoured (detracting from common theme of citrus sherbert) cheap!

Disadvantages: Too many can be sickly. They stick to the roof of your mouth!

The Flying Saucer is one of my favourite confectionary items. For the unenlightened, they are little brightly coloured pieces of rice paper shaped like UFOs, and are filled with delicious sherbert of various flavours such as strawberry, lime, lemon and orange. Personally, my favourite is strawberry as I find that a non-citrus fruit goes much better with the rice paper, and makes for quite the contrasting taste explosion, much more enjoyable than the unpleasant bitterness of the lime flavoured saucer, too many of which can be particularly sickly!

Flying Saucers melt on the tongue. The rice paper dissolves as the awesome power of the delicious sherbert powder is unleashed. This is of course, only one of the many ways of eating these treats. Another way is to simply bite into the middle, and pour the tangy sherbert into one's mouth, then eating the rest of the saucer. I have even witnessed people cracking open the UFOs, extracting the sherbert and DISCARDING the saucers themselves! I consider this a false economy, although that may be up for some debate as I have never really seen sherbert sold on its own. (I'll have to look into that.)

They are often sold for very cheap, and in bulk. The are particularly cheap and subsequently popular at pic'n'mix stands as they cost so little due to their lightness. They are most readily available in the UK in cheap shops such as Poundland and Home Bargains.

Summary: Mmm sherbert its lovely!

Oh yes you're quite right! I'll add that to 'disadvantages' right away!
