Advantages: Taste great, are moreish.

Disadvantages: None.

I tend to eat chocolate bars and sweets rather than biscuits but my eating habits changed when a friend gave me a Fox's 'Viennese' biscuit recently. At first sight the biscuits didn't look all that interesting to me; they reminded me of the Bourbon biscuits I used to eat as a child - two brown shortbread strips with a waxy cream in the middle of them. After one taste, however, I understood that these were a class above any other shortbread biscuit and much improved on the bland biscuity snacks I used to eat when I was young. These biscuits have since become a firm favourite.

The biscuits are available in two varieties: Chocolate and Double Chocolate. I am reviewing the 'Double Chocolate' variety. In this product the biscuits differ from the 'chocolate' variety in that they are not actually sandy-coloured butter shortbread but are brown chocolate flavoured shortbread. Both biscuits have the same chocolate centre.

The biscuits come in packs of ten and are packed on a sturdy inner tray inside a plastic packet. All information is printed on the wrapper. A handy nutritional guide is printed on the front of the pack for easy viewing. More detailed guidelines are on the back. Each biscuit provides 83 calories and 5 grams of fat, barely more than the 4.9 grams in the plain 'Chocolate Viennese' variety. They are suitable for vegetarians but contain wheat, gluten, cows milk, egg and soya.

The biscuits are approximately 3 inches long and 1 inch wide. They have an interesting waved shape with a nobbley texture on their outer edge. The two halves look like they have been slammed together as the milk chocolate centre seems to have oozed out and set, sticking and dripping around the edge of the biscuit.

The shortbread has a divine taste and texture. It literally melts in the mouth. It dissolves into a fine, smooth substance which is a really gorgeous sensation in the mouth! The taste is sugary with a musky chocolate undertone. The milk chocolate centre is quite waxy and really seems more like a thick waxy paste-like substance than it does a high quality chocolate. The substance is quite sticky and isn't as quick to melt in the mouth as the shortbread does. The taste of it is lovely though - it has a sharper, sweeter kick than the shortbread and my tongue always seems to seek out the rich, creamy taste and moist texture!

These biscuits are fantastic if eaten with a glass of milk. They are, infact, ideal for dunking if you are that way inclined! Dipped into cold, fresh milk the shortbread soaks up the drink but the biscuit does not dissolve into bits and lose its shape. The taste sensation of this 'combo' is fantastic.

I would say these biscuits are suitable for both children and adults. They are practically mess free and leave no crumbs or sticky fingers. As stated, I love to eat these with a drink of chilled milk but they are also great with tea/coffee or alone as a snack. I thoroughly endorse these and would recommend them as a fantastic-tasting, high-quality, moreish shortbread biscuit.

Summary: A wonderful, tasty biscuit.
