Advantages: Taste lovely, gorgeous cream centre
Disadvantages: calories :(
I used to love crunch creams when I was younger, but it's been ages (I'd go as far as saying years) since I've actually had them. A couple of weeks ago I was looking for something sweet and despite the fact I'm supposed to be on a diet I ended up buying a packet - although so far I've had no more than two a day, so I'm not doing too badly, considering how yummy these are!
The biscuits come in a light green packet featuring a picture of them and lots of product information that is well set out and easy to read. The packet also has one of those red tear off strip things so you can open the packet easily.
If you've never had ginger crunch creams, or in fact any of the other varieties from the crunch cream range, I should explain what they are. Basically you have hear two crunchy ginger biscuits which are sandwiched together with a butter cream filling - the same sort of filling you would get on a custard cream.
Appearance wise the biscuits looks really nice. They are a golden gingery colour and the biscuits have that lovely crackled effect on the top. The layer of butter cream in the middle is very thick and a creamy colour, giving the overall biscuit a very appetising appearance.
The important part though, is the taste test. Firstly though I'll just let you know that the front of the pack proclaims proudly that these are made with real ground ginger. I'm not quite sure what else anyone would have expected them to be made of, but since this is written in such big letters, I felt I should mention it just in case it was a more important fact than I believe it is.
The ginger biscuits are as you would expect from the name, crunchy. One thing they're not though is crumbly - yes you do get a few crumbs, but they don't totally crumble like some others. I think that the ginger flavour in each biscuit is not quite as strong as you would normally expect, however I believe this is because you are effectively eating two biscuits in one here, so if the ginger taste was any stronger it may be too much and overpower the whole flavour.
The layer of cream in the middle is gorgeous. Like I said, it's just like the centre of a custard cream, and is smooth and very sugary sweet but not to a point that it is sickly.
I find the cream layer breaks up the taste of the biscuit perfectly and without it they may taste a little dry. It's just the correct level of sweetness, and the combination of flavours is perfect.
Whilst the biscuits are moreish, I find that I can't normally eat more than three, which isn't very many for me, because 'back in the day' I used to be able to polish off a whole pack of biscuits, shamefully enough. I think the reason that I can't manage more is because like I say they are double biscuits so quite filling.

I paid 95p for these in Somerfield although they were on a buy one get one free offer at the time. ASDA only charge 87p though, so maybe I should buy them from there in the future!
Overall, lovely biscuits and great for a treat, I'd certainly recommend them.
Summary: Yum
