Advantages: Amazing taste and texture, cheap
Disadvantages: Unhealthy =(
I don't always eat chocolate biscuits, sometimes I prefer a nice jam one and that's when I buy Fox's Jam Cream Biscuit. I choose this one because Fox's make some of the best biscuits there are in the U.K I for one have never found a biscuit made by them that is not 100% delicious although I'll admit not in the slightest bit nutritious. Okay, enough rhyming now, Fox's have been around for over 100 years and really have perfected their biscuit making technique in this time, plus these really are great biscuits and make a nice change from chocolate ones.
I bought a 150g packet of these from Tesco for £0.67 which is quite good considering that you get 10 biscuits in each packet. The packet itself is red with the Fox's logo on it and with a few pictures of the biscuits dotted around. On the back of the packet are the ingredients and the nutritional information. Inside the packet the biscuits are all in a little plastic tray to stop them from getting smashed up. Once you have taken them out of the packet, if you're planning on not eating them all at once then you'll need to keep them in an airtight container to stop them from going stale and soft.
I like to include the ingredients for those people who have food allergies, the ingredients of these biscuits are:
Wheatflour, Vegetable Oil, Sugar, Raspberry Jam (10%), Glucose Syrup, Dried Whole Milk, Dried Skimmed Milk, Partially Inverted Refiners Syrup, Salt, Raising Agents: Ammonium Bicarbonate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Emulsifier: Soya Lecithin, Natural Flavourings, Raspberry Jam contains Sucrose Syrup, Raspberries, Glucose-Fructose Syrup, Invert Sugar, Gelling Agent: Pectin, Acidity Regulator: Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid
They contain Cows Milk, Soya, Wheat, Gluten plus they have been made in a factory which handles Nuts. On the positive side though they are suitable for vegetarians. These, like most other biscuits are really not healthy, they contain an awful lot of saturated fat but their sugar content is a lot lower than other biscuits. Each one contains:
Calories:
80kcal, 4% of your GDA
Sugar:
4.9g, 5% of your GDA
Fat:
3.8g, 5% of your GDA
Saturates:
2.1g, 11% of your GDA
Salt:
0.1g, 1% of your GDA
The biscuits themselves are round in shape, a little bit like Jammie Dodgers but I personally think that these are better. Basically they are two pieces of biscuit held together by a layer of cream filling. The top biscuit has a hole in the centre which is filled with real raspberry jam rather than the rubbish you get in some biscuits. The rest of this top piece of biscuit is covered in small lines which have a curvy shape and reach from the edge to the jam centre, these go all the way around the top and provide a nice bit of texture to the biscuits. They are a pale golden colour, the jam is nice and red and the cream in the middle is a, well a cream colour. The biscuits have a nice sweet taste that isn't too strong, the main flavour comes from the raspberry jam on the top which does indeed taste fruity and the cream in the middle which has a lovely smooth texture and is a delight to eat. You can either break these biscuits apart and eat the different bits separately or you can take a bite and get a little bit of all the flavours at once.
I think this is a great biscuit and is much better than a Jammie Dodger. It lives up to all my expectations on Fox's and is a delight to eat. Recommended.
Summary: Great biscuit, give them a try
