Advantages: Taste delicious, cheap to buy, well packaged
Disadvantages: Sugar and calories - as ever!
Well I have to confess - it is good for the soul after all - I have sinned and it is all your fault!
I have been reading reviews recently here on Dooyoo about Fox's Party Rings biscuits and I haven't had any for years! Yesterday I popped into our local branch of Poundland to do a bit of shopping and what did I find? You guessed it - Fox's Party Rings! There they were on the shelf calling to me and I just couldn't resist the temptation!
The Price
Well since I was in Poundland I suppose it is pretty obvious that the price of the packet of biscuits was £1! It was an extra value pack which contained 200g of biscuits so it was certainly very good value.
The Packaging
The packet is bright and inviting with the words Fox's Party Rings written in lettering of lots of different colours. There are pictures of the biscuits and little childlike drawings of cakes, balloons and party hats. The packet that I bought also had a bright yellow flash across it with the words 'extra value 2 x 100g' written across it.
At the bottom right hand corner there is the now familiar basic nutritional information but this time it is expressed as a percentage of the guideline daily amount of children aged 5 to 10 as that is the market that the biscuits are aimed at.
Inside the packet the biscuits were wrapped in two packets containing 100g each. They were stacked in fairly rigid plastic containers with four biscuits in each of in four separate compartments making sixteen biscuits in all. The plastic container is then sealed in cellophane so that the biscuits remain fresh until they are opened. It is worth mentioning here that, if you open the packet and don't eat all the biscuits (!), you will need to put the remainder in an airtight container to keep them fresh or they will go soft quite quickly.
The Look and Smell
As soon as I tore open the outer wrapper I could see that the biscuits looked just as good as I remembered them! They are circular and about an inch and a half in diameter with a small hole in the middle.
Each biscuit is covered in coloured icing with white stripes on it and each pile of biscuits was topped with a different coloured icing.
When I opened the inner wrapper I could immediately smell the sweet, sugary smell of the icing mingled with a nice biscuity fragrance.
The Taste
I popped a whole biscuit into my mouth - yes I know I'm a big mouth - so that I didn't get crumbs everywhere. That's my story anyway!
The biscuit was nice and crunchy, the icing was sweet and the whole thing tasted absolutely delicious. Incidentally there was no discernable difference in taste between the ones with the various colours of icing on top.
I have to confess that I ate the whole of one of the 100g packets in one go which amounted to 454 calories, although to be fair I hadn't had much in the way of lunch! Nice as they were I wouldn't really recommend them as a meal replacement though!
The Nutritional Information
I will give you the information expressed per biscuit as that is how normal people will eat them I'm sure!
Calories 31
Protein 0.3g
Carbohydrates 5.3g
Of which sugars 2.9g
Fat 0.9g
Of which saturates 0.4g
Fibre 0.1g
Salt 0.03g
Conclusion
Well they were just as good as I remembered them and I thoroughly enjoyed eating them AND I still have the other 100g packet in the cupboard. I will try not to eat those all at nice but I can't promise anything!
Since I find them so hard to resist I won't be buying them on a regular basis but that is because I usually do try to limit my sugar intake believe it or not!
So, if you fancy reliving your childhood, are buying for a children's' party or you are just looking for something as a treat pop into Poundland - they are a bargain at 32 biscuits for £1!
Summary: A lovely trip back in time!

- 04/12/09 What a blast from the past! I remember having these at birthday parties when I was a kid. |

- 14/11/09 These were my favourites as a kid but I think they'd be too sweet for me now. |

- 22/10/09 I was reading a magazine the other day that ranked these as the most virtuous of a bunch of favourite biccies in terms of nutritious (though I think they meant 'least bad'). That made me want some...this makes me want some more. I love licking off the icing :D |
