Advantages: Very filling, nice biscuit

Disadvantages: Chocolate is very sweet and a bit sickly

With summer and the prospect of more days of hot weather I am trying to be good with my diet so I can look good in my bikini (even though we haven't actually booked a holiday yet, it's good to be prepared!). But my willpower has been pretty non-existent lately, especially when my fiancé's Mum keeps buying biscuits!

These Fox's Shortcake Rounds are just the latest treats she's brought home in the weekly shop, the other being Fox's Millionaire's Shortcake.

I've always thought Fox's produce a brilliant range of biscuits and I have always perceived them to be on the indulgent side. These Shortcake Rounds are definitely that. The tagline on the packet is "Shortcake Rounds nestling inside a thick wrap of gorgeous milk chocolate". Well I'm not going to argue with that as that is certainly true. The biscuit is very nice indeed, but it is totally lost in the thick chocolate that surrounds it. On the Fox's website it says that each biscuit has 79% chocolate, so I'm beginning to think this should be in the chocolate aisle of the supermarket!

Don't get me wrong, I do like them, but they're not something I'd eat all of the time. One of these biscuits is definitely enough for me as the chocolate is incredibly rich and afterwards I feel a bit sick. It's not surprising really as they are a bit of a beast at 5cm diameter and 1cm thick (and yes I did get my tape measure out!).

I find them incredibly sweet, so much so that my teeth hurt, even though I have been using toothpaste for sensitive teeth, but the sugar in these biscuits laughs in the face of the toothpaste!

The packaging is bog-standard plastic wrapping to cover a tray filled with 8 biscuits. I do find the packaging a tad misleading, as the picture of the biscuit has the word Fox's imprinted in the chocolate (with the hole in the biscuit forming the 'o' in the word - clever eh?!) but this isn't on the actual biscuits. More importantly, the nutritional information is different to what is on the website. The packet states each biscuit contains 101 calories, 9.4g sugar, 5.3g fat of which 3.2g saturates, but on the website it gives the following: 119 calories, 11.4g sugar, 6.3g fat of which 3.8g saturates. It is rather worrying how the figures don't match, but for my healthy eating regime I'm going with the lower figures!

These biscuits will definitely fulfil the biggest chocolate craving, but they're not really good for dunking in your tea unless you want a hot chocolate beverage!

Summary: Not bad but not really my cup of tea.
