Fray Bentos pies make a great meal on those days when you really don't have the time to cook a meal from scratch. A typical pie is large enough to feed two people as part of a meal. This pies are great to keep in your kitchen cupboards as they have a long use-by date so can be stored for a good few months before needing to be used. They should be stored in a cool place but not frozen. They are available in a few different flavours and are really tasty. This review is for the steak and mushroom version. The pie has a quite thin layer of pastry at the bottom of the tin with layers of gravy covered steak and mushrooms followed by a thick layer of puff ... Read the complete review

This was news to me..Fray Bentos is the name of a small town in Uraguay ! I have only ever thought of Fray Bentos in terms of convenient and satisfying pies and suet puddings. Sales of these delicious yet humble pies and puddings soared during the 70`s and 80`s due to fierce television advertising.Last year Fray Bentos sales topped £30 million pounds. The Fray Bentos pie tin is surely among one of the most difficult tins to open,im amazed that it doesnt contravene any Health and Safety regulation ! But once you have weilded the can opener and successfully lifted the lid off, from then on its all plain sailing. The pie needs to go into a ... Read the complete review

Fray Bentos Steak & Mushroom Pie 475g I bought this pie a couple of months ago because it was on offer and I thought I would try it. I kept it in the cupboard and had the chance to try it only recently and here is what I thought of it. To begin with, Fray Bentos pies are on the cheap side; Each 475g canned pie costs no more than £1.52 - £1.55 and it gives two servings. Of course, you will need a can opener for this product and because the diameter of this can is almost six inches, opening it will take quite some time. For those of you who haven't tried this before, you can prepare this pie by putting it, after you open the can, on a ... Read the complete review

Fray Bentos Steak & Mushroom Pie Description: Meat - Ready Meals / Steak strips and sliced mushrooms in a gravy sauce topped with a puff pastry. There is something comforting about Fray Bentos pies. To begin with, they are a pie, in a tin which is great - it means that it last for ages in the cupboard and is there as a quick stand by when you are in a hurry. Each pie is 475g which is just right for 2 people. I paid £1.30 for this pie but they are often to be found on offer too. All you have to do is to take the lid off with a tin opener then put the pie into a pre heated oven. 20 to 25 minutes later, the pastry has risen and ... Read the complete review
