Advantages: Creamy, tasty, cheap to buy
Disadvantages: Fattening
I love chocolate, but am not very adventurous when it comes to trying different brands. I almost always buy Cadbury's or Nestlé chocolate because they are the most widely available and I am just too lazy to try others. However, the other day, whilst food shopping, I fancied a change to my normal choice and opted for a bar of Galaxy milk chocolate instead. This isn't the first time I've bought Galaxy but it's quite a while since I last bought a bar, so I couldn't quite remember how it tasted. I paid 68p for a 150g bar from Morrisons, which I consider to be excellent value for money, especially when a similar sized bar of Cadbury chocolate costs £1.08!
** First Impressions **
As soon as you see this chocolate bar, you can tell that it represents true quality. It has a very luxurious air about it and an enticing quality which will appeal to all chocoholics - myself included! The wrapper itself has a swirl effect in the background, with various shades of brown and gold, and the name 'Galaxy' almost dripping across the front in a melted chocolate effect. Removing the outer wrapper reveals a faux foil layer within which you'll find the bar itself. The packaging certainly promises a lot, so let's move on to the bar itself....
** Rip Open that Wrapper! **
Like most chocolate bars, Galaxy is split into tear-off segments, each one with a small 'G' etched into the surface of the chocolate. The chocolate looks more creamy than Cadbury chocolate and smells sweet and creamy, more like Nestlé milk chocolate than Cadbury's.
So how does it taste...? As I break off a chunk and pop it in my mouth, the chocolate melts very quickly. It is silky, smooth and also quite sweet. But it is the wonderful creaminess of the chocolate which really stands out and this is what makes it so very moreish. The creamy flavour gives Galaxy a superiority that some other brands of chocolate cannot achieve. However, as you might expect, being so creamy can have a downside: Galaxy is one of the more sickly chocolates, so I would warn against eating too much in one go!
** Nutrition Information **
It seems a bit silly writing about nutrition information for a chocolate bar, but I thought I should mention some of the nutritional values anyway. Eating 100g of Galaxy chocolate contains:
Energy 543 kcal (calories)
Protein 6.8g
Carbohydrate 57.9g
Fat 31.6g
Fibre 1.5g
Sodium 0.11g
According to the wrapper, the chocolate contains the emulsifiers E442 and soya lecithin, as well as a minimum of 14% milk solids and 25% cocoa solids. However, the wrapper does not state whether the bar is suitable for vegetarians or those with an allergy to nuts, so I cannot comment on this.
** What I think **
Galaxy chocolate is certainly one of the tastiest I have tried. Although I am still a fan of cadbury milk chocolate, I will definitely be buying Galaxy again. Some people may find it too creamy and not 'chocolatey' enough, but I find it immensely satisfying and luxurious.
RECOMMENDED.
