Advantages: Yummy, yummy, yummy, yummy... oh, and did I say yummy?
Disadvantages: [heavy sigh] the calories
Having settled down to read and rate a few reviews, I brought along a Galaxy chocolate bar... in the hopes that it would sweeten my mood when I inevitably come across all those surveys from newbies who think a product or movie can be reviewed in a single paragraph, and couldn't be bothered to use a spellchecker!
Needless to say, although Galaxy is one of the nicest popular chocolates out there [by popular I mean that it is mainstream and affordable], those newbie reviews are getting the best of me this morning...
Having purchased two 125g Galaxy chocolate bars from Sainsbury's because I just couldn't resist the tempting... price... a mere £2.00 for 2 yummy bars... I am now in chocolate heaven as I write.
Firstly... the packaging... it definitely looks as good as it tastes with its velvety smooth pool of melted chocolate [some think it looks more like a piece of silk] on the wrapper with a tempting peek at the chocolate inside, and keeping it all together, a glossy foil wrap in a yummy chocolaty colour with G's stamped on the foil. All-in-all, a tempting exterior that promises tons of chocolaty pleasure.
Carefully peeling the first wrapper away, I smooth it out so that I can read the extract from 'The Final Reckoning' by Sam Bourne. For those who have never purchased a Galaxy bar [shock, horror] or are simply too impatient and tend to toss away the top wrapper in their haste to get at the chocolate, Galaxy prints book extracts on the inside of their wrappers, no doubt to help create a more 'indulgent' and 'luxurious' mood - much like their commercials. I have no idea when they started printing these as I used to be one of those who tore the wrapper off and was at the chocolate before the wrapper had even hit the floor! All I know is that one day, as I was making a paper boat with the wrapper, I noticed that there was writing on it and unfolded it in order to read what had been printed. I actually quite liked the thoughtfulness of Galaxy, and have since then taken the time to read the extracts while my first piece of chocolate melts in my mouth.
Next, carefully parting the shiny foil, I break off an entire row of the chocolate before then breaking the row into small squares. I don't know about everyone else, but I find that the new shape of the squares makes it more difficult to actually break off neat squares... they tend to break off in misshapen pieces. I hate to accuse the nice new 'shape' of being responsible for making my squares look like wedges, but I refuse to take the blame!
Ahhhh... the smell, that delectably sweet scent that has you salivating before you've even managed to pop a piece into your mouth, and that scent doesn't let you down because the chocolate tastes as good as it smells.
Possessing a creamy and smooth texture, you can truly appreciate the taste only if you manage to control your impatience and allow it to melt in your mouth. The taste is full-bodied, not as strong as plain chocolate but just as decadent, and although sweet, that sweetness isn't overpowering. Galaxy chocolate possesses a minimum of 25% cocoa solids, and this comes through in the taste... unlike some chocolate bars out there that taste like milk with added chocolate powder!
Galaxy chocolate bars are a bit more expensive than other popular brands, but it's well worth the additional pennies.
Like all good things, unfortunately, Galaxy chocolate bars come at a cost... to your waistline as well as your wallet! Your waistline will be targeted by 544 kcal per 100g, and unless you managed to pick up the bar on sale, it'll cost you £1.26 for 100g.
Enough said! I have been staring at my Galaxy chocolate bar for nearly half an hour now and haven't had a single piece! Where did I put that wrapper??!!!
