Advantages: Nice texture, decent over all chocolate

Disadvantages: Melts too easily, slightly sharp after taste

One of the plain bars on the British shelf in regards to chocolate is the plain Galaxy bar, this comes in a multi-tone brown wrapper, with what looks like it's name being spelt in melted liquid chocolate. Although one of the prettiest wrappers it is, in all honesty, just plain plastic unlike the futuristic look of the boost, or the cute appeal of a freddo. The Galaxy brand is actually run by the Mars Bar company, though unlike Mars' normal chocolate this always seems creamier and milkier in taste, a more premium chocolate if you will in comparison.

The standard smaller bars weight is on the larger side of average at 46g though in physical size it is a rather average sized bar, perhaps a little on the short side if anything. When taken out of the wrapper it comes in 6 chunks with a rather "wavy" design to each of them and it comes in a light brown chocolate (as opposed to dark or white). It seems when it's actually tasted it is slightly creamier than the major rival (the Cadbury's Dairy Milk bar) however it does seem to have a rather off putting after taste that's a little bitter and sharp.

Despite each piece being easy to snap from the rest of the bar (which is always nice) the chocolate does seem to have the annoying feature of feeling like it's melted onto your fingers, infact, most the times it does leave you're fingers a little bit sticky and chocolate marked. Not a great quality to be honest, I like my chocolate to be in my mouth, not over my fingers, though it is often a case of the creamier and milkier chocolates having a lower melting point (the Kinder bars have a similar problem to be honest due to the fact they have more milk than cocoa).

Sadly Mars (much like Nestle) haven't yet followed the lead of Walkers, Coca-Cola, Britvic and main rival Cadbury in introducing the Treat Wise Guide, which shows the Calories, Sugars, Fat, Saturates and Salts per serving of the product. Hopefully in the next 12 months the scheme catches on as it seems rather suspect when a product doesn't share it's saturated fat content (and this to be honest, is one I think would have quite a lot due to it's size/relative weight, though it is only an educated guess).

The bar contains Milk, Lactose, Whey powder, Soya, E442, Vegetable Fat though it suitable for vegetarians, no comment is made on the packet regarding nuts so presumably they are fine.

Overall the bar is nice though it's not the nicest of it's category ("plain chocolate bar") the after taste and the melting at room temperature are both features that chocolate bars shouldn't have to have. This is another educated guess, but as the product is using an E number already why not use a solid emulsifier to stop the product melting? I'd personally rather have the Cadbury's (or the Kinder) equivalent, though I am aware many do like the creamier taste of the Galaxy and lets be honest...they are wrong (right?).

Summary: Not the nicest plain chocolate but an acceptable one.

I'm not keen on Galaxy because it is too rich and the fact it melts everywhere before you've got it in your mouth, too icky for me, great review though!
