Advantages: tasty
Disadvantages: none
Well, I never thought I would be writing a review, on a Ginsters product, having previously stated, in several comments, that I found Ginsters pies and pasties much too spicy for my taste.
So what has changed my mind, you may ask.
My sister occasionally pops down from Weston for the day, just to get away from hubby and the housework.
However, when she makes an unexpected visit, she usually brings a snack for us both so that we can catch up on all the news and gossip without having to waste too much talk-time in the kitchen, cooking.
You can probably guess what she brought yesterday then. Yes, a Ginsters Chicken and Mushroom Slice.
I have to say, I did try to think of ways to avoid eating this Ginsters offering, but was hungry and so, stoically resigned to the likelyhood of a lingering taste, of the hot spicy contents, for the remainder of the day, microwaved it and took my first mouthful.
Surprise - surprise, it was delicious. No hot spicy surprises either, if anything just a tiny bit too salty, but otherwise very, very tasty.
The first thing to notice about any Ginsters pies or slices, and one I have always admired, is the lovely light puff pastry wrapping; strong enough to hold the contents of goodly sized chunks of chicken, and mushrooms plus a generous helping of creamy sauce, yet thin enough not to overpower the taste and textures within, or to fill you up before the pie is half eaten.
I did, however, find it sufficiently filled with generous enough portions of chicken and mushrooms to satisfy my healthy appetite.
Energy per 180 gm Chicken and Mushroom Slice is 439kcal.
I believe that each slice cost 94p at Tesco. It can be eaten cold, straight from the packet, heated in an oven or microwave or can be frozen and kept for one month in the freezer.
~~~~A list of ingredients for those with allergen problems~~~~
British chicken 25%
Vegetable oil,
Mushrooms 11%
Potato,
Water
Double cream 5%
Cornflour
Egg
Onion
Salt 2.16g
Ginsters pasties still remain far too spicy for me to enjoy, but their Chicken and mushroom Slices are just right for my palate.
I won't be waiting for my sister to call again before purchasing a slice or two.
Summary: It's got to be a slice not a pasty for me.
