Advantages: Delish; Peppery flavour; Tender meat
Disadvantages: None
I just had one of these slices because I come over starving and only something hot and stodgy would do it.
I nuked mine because I couldn't be bothered to wait 20 mins for the oven, I knew I'd be sacrificing the crispy pastry but didn't care because I don't mind soggy microwaved pastry sometimes!
It's proper nice, the taste is very peppery so if you're not mad for spicy food then you might think it's a bit much but I love it! The steak is always tender in these and it suprises me every time I have one because in most of these cold slices the meat is usually a bit stringy.
There's loads of meat in the slice, there's a few vegetables but I can't remember what they are. Peas and potatoes I think but don't quote me on it! lol When it's been nuked the pastry goes soft and a bit soggy but it still tastes good and is perfect if you're in a hurry.
I've done them in the oven before and the pastry rises nice, it goes light and crispy and is loads better done that way than in the microwave! I always have a dollop of bbq sauce on the side of the plate to dip the pastry in because the ends are always boring where there's no filling.
It's the gravy that's peppery but because the meat's been soaking in it it's absorbed the pepper taste and it's leaves the slice with a hot flavour. I've had it cold and it's not as peppery then but the slice isn't as nice to eat so it's hot every time for me.
I have them with mash, vegetables and gravy sometimes because the pastry goes lovely and soft in the gravy and it's nice for a change instead of meat.
