Advantages: Good flavours

Disadvantages: High calorie count

This review is for the Deeply Delicious Ham and Pineapple by Goodfellas. I have tried a lot of supermarket pizzas in my time, all the brands under the sun, deep pan, Italian style and probably most of the flavours. However I tend to find that a lot of pizzas just don't manage to make it taste anywhere near what a takeaway pizza would which is really what I'm looking for.

So I decided to try the ham and pineapple version of this. I normally find this and the plain margherita to be the best of the bunch in any pizza brand. This comes in a mid to dark red box and I think that it, and the pizza inside, are a little smaller than most other ones. On the front it tells you what flavour pizza it is using pink and yellow text to match the coour of the toppings which is a nice touch and it also gives you the nutritional information. Half of this pizza, which is what I had is 477 calories or 24% of the daily guideline which is a fair bit but this is probably due to the amount of cheese. Alternatively you could have a third and have salad with it to make it healthier.

This is cooked from frozen on gas mark 5 for 22-25 minutes so it's quite a quick meal. It does tell you to put it on the top shelf of the oven but sometimes when I do that I find it gets caught or at worst starts to burn a little and that does not taste good so I just put it in the middle shelf. Also I'd say don't be too strict with the timing. If it's got to 25 minutes and it's not yet golden I leave it for an extra few minutes.

Although this is slightly smaller than most pizzas it is very deep base so this probably makes up for it. It's actually nice and crispy to bite into which Goodfellas claim is to do with the fact that they use French wheat flour. The tomato sauce is of a good standard and lightly spiced and doesn't taste like ketchup which is good. The cheese whcih I think is very important is also nice and doesn't have that horrible artificial rubbery taste and they seem to have struck the right balance between over-doing it which makes it tastes sickly and being so stingy that you can barely taste it. I was also impressed with the toppings, the ham was tasty too but it was the pineapple that stood out for me as it was so juicy and complemented the pizza just perfectly.

This pizza was bought from Tesco on offer at 2 for £4. I wasn't there at the time but I'd guess they are probably about £2.50 - £3.00 for one. You could probably get them at all the other big supermarket chains too.

Summary: Excellent
