Advantages: Vast amounts of topping
Disadvantages: You may not like Deep Pan
More often than not it?s a special offer that will draw me into buying a pizza as there is such a vast range these days it?s always impossible to decide which one to choose. Today was no different when I popped into my local Kwik Save and noticed that Goodfella?s Deep Pan were on buy one get one free, not bad for £2.50. Even then the choice was excellent with eight different flavours to choose from. In the end I went for the cheese one and the Ham and Pineapple, or the Hoola as the packaging states. The pizza itself is about eight inches in diameter but a good inch thick as well. What really makes this pizza what it is though is the vast amount of pineapple chunks and ham pieces. Not only do you get a lot of them but they are also cut to a decent size, especially the ham, which means that it doesn?t shrivel to a tasteless minute thing when it?s cooking. When you open the packet expect to find the two toppings about as spaced out as sardines in a can but they are loose so make sure you spread them evenly. This is even recommended on the packaging, which suggests you would think they might consider doing this during the production stage. The person whose job it is to do this must really not care as they seem to load up each topping in one area, rarely overlapping! Perhaps they don?t appreciate good pizza!? The vast topping is complemented by a total covering of tomato puree and enough cheese so that the puree can hardly be seen. Again this makes for a good pizza, there is nothing worse than a pizza spoilt because there?s hardly any cheese, which makes the puree overpowering and seemingly the only thing you can taste when you eat it. Preparing the pizza couldn?t be simpler. Taking just 25 minutes in the oven on gas mark 5, although if you take up the packaging offer to not get bored by ?watching the cheese slowly melt and bubble? then you really need to get out more. Once it?s cooked the cheese has bubbled nicely (not that I watched
it during the cooking, honest) and turned a slight golden brown, more so around the edges. I must emphasise to be careful as it really is piping hot! The smell had filled the room since it started cooking and only adds to anticipation - the classic pizza smell, if you like. The taste of this pizza is supreme. Although the base is thick this pizza isn?t too doughy or crusty like some I?ve tried due to the vast amount of cheese, tomato and topping. The base is crispy though but not too tough. The combination of the ham and pineapple is what you?d expect from any pizza but again it?s the amount that makes the pizza taste so nice. If you?ve spread the topping well then you get ample amount of both topping on each slice and ultimately each mouthful ? there?s nothing worse than having a mouthful of pineapple one minute, then ham the next without ever getting the two together. As well as this flavour the pizza comes in seven others flavours, all with jazzy (but pointless) names: Mediterranean madness, Massive on Meat, Loaded Cheese, Spicy Chicken Jolt, Big Bite Bacon and Mushroom, Pepperoni Perfecto and Xtreme Meat ? all of which I?m sure I?ll try during this offer! As usual Goodfella?s offer their guarantee to return the pizza if you are not satisfied, although I?m positive you will be. Overall this is one of the best frozen deep pan pizzas I?ve tried. The thickness of the base is not overpowering the rest of the pizza due to the vast amount of topping. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that likes pizza, especially deep pan and ESPECIALLY if you can get down to Kwik Save and get them at this price!!

- 03/05/06 Your not going to like this, but it is a true story. We used your Pizza review in our English lesson, and we were highlighting the mistakes. Harsh as it might be, it was quite funny. The parts we picked out were the over-use of "Vast", which tended to be used frequently. You also managed to contradict yourself by using two seperate cases of "Theres nothing worse than...".
We also tried to picture in our minds the kind of person who would actually right a review about a pizza. |

- 06/02/04 I love pineapple on pizza, but not ham! I really prefer either home-made pizza, or the ones we can order from our local pizza delivery place, but this sounds not bad for a supermarket one. Sue |
