Advantages: Really tasty, vegan, fairtrade
Disadvantages: None at all
Yesterday we had a barbeque, so I set off the the supermarket in search of something for mum and I (both vegetarian.) To be honest, I had my mind set on buying a pack of Goodlife Spicy Bean Burgers, a favourite of mine.....but at ten to four on a Sunday afternoon they had all sold out on a buy one get one free! So, a bit reluctantly I settled for the nut cutlets.
I don't have anything against nuts, infact I really like them. I think I've had a few bad experiences with nut loaf and nut roast as a Christmas day turkey substitute, and that's put me off. The nut cultets have really turned pre-conceptions that nut things are always a bit dry and tasteless on their head. Put it this way, I bought a pack yesterday, polished 2 off at the barbeque (mum didn't get a look in) and had the other 2 for tea tonight....so they can't be all that bad!
Every Goodlife vegetarian product I have tried has been a hit, so I shouldn't have had any doubts when it came to these. They are fairtrade too which is a bonus as you know everyone is getting a fair deal. They are approved by the vegetarian society and the cardboard packaging is recyclable. They are well priced at £1.89 for 4 good sized cutlets. The pack has a cut out heart shaped section so you can see the product inside the box which is good.
Each cutlet is round, just like a burger. They are made from a combination of fairtrade peanuts, cashew nuts, sweet root vegetables and fairtrade rice seasoned with herbs. They are nice and moist and you can really taste the nuts, especially the cashews. It's a really good combination of textures and flavours. They barbequed well, didn't fall apart like some veggie options go on the barbeque. Tonight I cooked them in the oven and they were equally as tasty.
One cutlet will provide you with 223 calories and 13.7 grams of fat (2.0 grams saturates) This equates to 3.5 weight watchers points if you happen to be following the plan. They don't contain any colours, flavours or preservatives and are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.
Highly recommended as a vegetarian option for your next barbeque.
Summary: I am converted.
