I have long thought of 'Green and Black's' chocolate as a sort of high class, more morally sound alternative to the giants of the confectionary market, Cadbury and Nestle. The chocolate is often sold in health food shops and farm shops and most often snuggled amongst the small 'organics' collection at my local supermarket. The packaging information on the bar explains the company's ethos: that the 'green' in their name 'Green and Blacks' was chosen to represent the "sustainable and organic principles" they employ in the production of the chocoloate. The product is also endorsed by the Soil Association, which means the standards of organic ... Read the complete review

As I have said in previous reviews, I am not really much of a chocolate fan, preferring savoury snacks such as crisps. However, I was in my local petrol station and I noticed that they had Green and Blacks Organic Butterscotch Chocolate on special offer, so I decided to treat myself to a bar. About Green & Blacks The name Green and Black actually comes from 'green for organic' and black for 'dark, rich colour of the chocolate'. Green and Blacks is based in London and is owned by Cadbury Schweppes. Packaging The outer wrapper of this bar of chocolate is pretty much just glossy paper. The packaging is a dark brown colour and the top ... Read the complete review

Having just been to Tesco this morning, I decided to treat myself to a lovely big bar of Green and Black's Butterscotch Milk Chocolate. I have bought the 100g bar (this is the biggest size available) and it is currently on a special offer at two bars for £3.00 (I also bought the Green and Black's Dark Chocolate with Mint - I have not tried that one yet, but will review it later when I have!) The normal price was £1.85 each, so quite a good offer there. All the Green and Black's chocolate bars are easily identifiable in smooth matt brown wrappers, then a different coloured top to identify the different flavours - in this case, it's ... ==Green and Black's== Green and Black's started in 1991 with dark chocolate 70% cocoa made with organic cocoa beans. In 1994 they added the Maya Gold bar to the collection and agreed to pay farmers a fair price for their cocoa, earning Green and Black's the first fairtrade mark in the UK. They produce ethically sourced and organic chocolate with a rich intense flavour which is now their trademark. ==The Bar Collection== The Bar Collection features 13 differently flavoured chocolate bars, these are; White, Milk, Butterscotch (milk chocolate), Almond (milk chocolate), Raisin and Hazelnut (milk chocolate), Apricot (milk chocolate), Maya Gold (dark ... Having shared a bar of this after the Christmas period, I enjoyed it without being wowed. It's a very pleasant premium chocolate bar with good quality smooth chocolate and the list of ingredients certainly support their marketing of the product as a luxury item. As mentioned by other reviewers, the butterscotch pieces are very hit and miss. Some of the segments I found were vaguely crisp (it had been in the fridge for a while), while others ended up as somewhat sticky and stodgy reminders of what a good idea butterscotch in chocolate must have been when they came up with it! Please don't let this specific comment/rating put you off the ... Read the complete review
