Green & Black's Organic Ginger Dark Chocolate

... for all their ingredients, but not all are available under the fair trade scheme. ===The bars=== The ginger chocolate bars is extremely sweet for a dark chocolate bar - presumably due to the high sugar content - most dark chocolate bars of this quality are 70% cocoa and correspondingly much more bitter. As such, more than a few pieces of this are somewhat overbearing in their sweetness. The ginger is quite subtle and is not overpowering in flavour, and it does permeate the chocolate beyond the small pieces. T...more

Premium Review Green & Black's Organic Ginger Dark Chocolate: Gingery! (318 words)

I shared a bar of this Green & Blacks chocolate with my mum today because we both needed a treat after going shopping. It's a big 100g bar of dark chocolate that has got loads of pieces of crystallised ginger in it. The chocolate is 60% solids and is one of the best dark chocolates I've tasted because it's proper smooth and creamy with a rich and strong flavour. The ginger pieces are wicked, they make the chocolate taste warmer and the taste of the ginger is strong enough to make the chocolate taste of it. The 2 flavours are delish together and make it feel like a proper luxury chocolate. I love how crunchy the sugary bits of ginger are ...  Read the complete review

Earlier this week I told you about the dull and very overrated ginger chocolate made by Lindt, I'd actually picked it up by mistake as I wanted the Green & Blacks version and was extremely disappointed. So to address the balance yesterday I went to Sainsbury's (directly from my Weight Watchers meeting!) and bought the bar I'd originally intended to buy, Green & Blacks Organic Ginger Dark Chocolate. The difference between the two bars is immense, allow me to refresh your memory about the Lindt chocolate before launching into my gushings about it's Green & Blacks counterpart. It is just dark chocolate with a vague sensation of being perhaps ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Green & Black's Organic Ginger Dark Chocolate: Green, Black, and Ginger..... (655 words)

I love chocolate, and eat far more of it than I should. Although I have been known to throw chocolate of dubious quality into my body, my chocolate of choice is good quality dark chocolate, preferably 70% cocoa content or more. And it is proven by scientific boffins in white coats, that dark chocolate is actually good for you.....and who am I to argue with that! Green & Black's produce a range of organic plain chocolate bars. There are a number of flavours, from plain 70% chocolate, to bars with almonds, mint, cherries, spices, and ginger. They are now part of the Cadbury empire, but thankfully have retained all the quality of the Green & Black's ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review It's Not Green & Black's - It's Mine! (681 words)

As a lifelong chocaholic, I am always interested in any studies that prove chocolate can be good for you. Several studies have shown that eating dark chocolate (in moderation!) can provide some health benefits, such as providing anti-oxidants, lowering mild blood pressure and releasing mood changing chemicals that make people feel happy. The studies all seem agreed that it is only dark chocolate that provides these benefits though... so don't rush out and stocky up on Dairy Milk just yet. It seems that the amount of cocoa in the chocolate is the key factor; dark chocolate can contain between 35% and 80% chocolate and as far as health is concerned, the higher the ...  Read the complete review

Green and Black's ginger chocolate is a sweet dark chocolate bar containing 60% cocoa with 20% embedded pieces of crystallised ginger. Costing £1.89 for a 100g bar, it is one of the posher everyday widely available brands that you can pick up in most supermarkets or health food stores (though don't make the mistake of thinking that means they are healthy - they aren't!). All of the ingredients of the bar are organically certified according to the Soil Association's standards and do not contain any genetically modified material. Green and Black's are based in London and have been making organic chocolate since 1991. Unlike their Maya Gold brand, the Ginger ...  Read the complete review
