... and then there is a picture of the actually dessert to give you an idea of what you are buying. They are called mini puds and in a box you get three which I didn't realise until I properly looked at the box. Each is a 50g torte and they are from the fridge so are fresh and have about two weeks of life before going off. Per pud it is 211 calories which is less than I expected and there is 14.5g of fat which is more realistic, 0.9g of fibre also. The tortes contain eggs, gluten, milk and soya and also may contain traces ...more

Premium Review Gu Cheeky Little Chocolate Fondants: Temptation As A Miniature (768 words)

Being pay weekend and being time for a food shop I decided to give myself a little treat. I am not usually one to make a big deal out of buying desserts but I saw an offer and wanted to give the Gu desserts a try as I'd always seen them but never bought. They are normally quite pricey for what they are though but with so much choice I decided to opt for the Cheeky Little Chocolate Tortes even though they have quite a range now and they all sound equally as nice. James Averdieck came up with the idea of a pud brand when he was working in Belgium, the place for chocolate. In 2003 the few launched did well and so they range was developed and the sister brand Fru, ...  Read the complete review

Along with the 3 little pots of GU "ganache" that I have previously reviewed I also picked up a box of these chocolate "Tortes" whilst they were on offer in Tesco. What makes these different from the other ones is the fact that you can serve them hot as well as cold. The picture on the front is reminiscent of the "Marks and Spencer melt in the middle chocolate pudding" that was advertised on the television so for that reason these had to find their way home with me. Packaged in the box shown above , the packaging for all the different varieties available seems to be the same apart from these have a pink end, these are described ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Gu Cheeky Little Chocolate Fondants: There's no goo in my Gü! (663 words)

Last night I was wandering around Tesco getting some bargains for lunch today, and pillaging the yellow stickers. While wandering around my eye was caught by a special offer on Gü mini puddings. I love Gü, but I do find them pricey so only tend to buy them when they're on offer. I'm on a diet at the moment, but I've been very good all week, and decided a little mid week treat was exactly what I needed. You get 3 mini puds in a box, and the current offer is 2 boxes for £3. Usually they sell for £1.99 a box in my Tesco's. I do think this is pretty pricy, but the quality of the Gü puddings made me think it was worth the spend. The ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review "Gu'd" do better (586 words)

Gu products in general I find are a good example of what I call the 'Emperor's New Clothes' marketing strategy....in that they're marketed as a top-end product sold at relatively high prices, but what's inside all that fancy matt-black expensive-looking packaging isn't, in eating terms, usually all that good. I still succumb to purchasing this stuff every so often, and I've tried all sorts of variations on the Gu chocolate pudding theme. There're the would-be posh soufflé thingies you buy I think in little glass pots; the godawful, bitter-tasting Gu 'tidgy chocolate puds', and now, these chocolate fondants. I know only one thing about chocolate ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Gu Cheeky Little Chocolate Fondants: Just not Gud enough! (588 words)

I do enjoy a good naughty treat every now and then so imagine my delight to find these Gu puddings on offer in Tesco today - BOGOF at £1.98. I would never buy them at full price but 6 for a few quid seemed like a bargain and if there's anything I like more than chocolately yumminess, it's a bargain. These puddings are packaged in the usual sexy black Gu box. However, there are 3 in each pack. What an odd number? The first thing myhusband said when I took these out of the fridge this evening was "You only get three? I suppose that's so the wife gets two and the husband only gets one!" Well, he said it! They are tiny though so I ...  Read the complete review
