Advantages: Absolutely delicious, full of rich chocolate flavours, wonderful texture

Disadvantages: An extremely high fat content

You may think what I am about to tell you is a rather poor excuse for buying (and devouring) these delicious chocolate treats from Gü, but let me assure you that every word I am about to type is true! I actually went into Tesco intending to buy two ramekin dishes, after selecting them I found myself browsing the chillers when I espied these Gü Hot Chocolate Souffles. Upon closer inspection I realised these desserts are supplied in glass ramekins, as they are on special offer at £2 a box I decided I might as well buy these for the extra 22p and have the dessert as well as the dishes!

What can I say? As per usual Gü have come up with a wonderously chocolatey dessert that had me practically drooling with each and every bite.

The Hot Chocolate Souffles are basically pure chocolate heaven. A thinnish crust of dense sponge which is placed atop a much looser wet chocolate 'lava' (Gü's word not mine, although very apt it is!) which seems to be another type of sponge albeit with the purposely undercooked texture of a good sweet souffle.

To get this Souffle ready for eating you simply pop it into the oven for ten minutes and then dig into it directly from the ramekin. You can do it in the microwave in much less time, however Gü advise on the box that the end result will be much different should you decide to nuke it and I don't think it would be such a luxuriously textured dessert.

I ate mine piping hot from the oven and I have a word of advice here. DON'T BE GREEDY! I burned my tongue on the 'lava' several times in my determination to shovel as much of this down my throat as quickly as possible and it's still sore now!

The flavour is absolutely divine. I repeat, absolutely divine. It has an intensely chocolatey cocoa flavour that flows across my taste buds, I didn't find the dessert overly sweet although obviously because of the nature of it there's is some sweetness there. For me it had much the same effect as eating a bar of good quality dark chocolate; that bitter sweet flavour that touches every part of my tongue and can still be detected a long time after eating it.

It's not just the taste that makes this dessert however, the texture is so absolutely wonderful that it makes for an overwhelmingly decadent chocolate treat. The sloppiness of the lava combined with the soft crust of the souffle is just perfect and it's the lava that houses the bulk of the rich chocolate flavour. The whole thing melts in my mouth as I eat and despite the fact that I was feeling a little queasy after basically being a greedy guts today I still cooked the second one a few minutes ago and ate the lot!

With the excuse of needing the ramekin for tomorrows low fat dessert of meringue and fresh fruit, not much difference really is there? Well, I am getting back to Weight Watchers tomorrow!

Speaking of Weight Watchers, it's just occurred to me to have a little look at the nutritional information on the back of the box. Well, while the calories aren't terribly bad (although bad enough!) it's the extremely high fat content that gave me pause for thought and almost made me regret being so greedy. Each 65g pot of Gü Hot Chocolate Souffle contains 298 calories and an amazingly high 23.5g of fat - meaning that over a third of this dessert is fat! Crikey, that is worrying as it really doesn't taste like such a fat laden dessert even though subconciously I obviously realised this wasn't exactly a low fat pud!

Summary: Wonderful, quite simply wonderful.

Wow these sound fantastic and will be on my shopping list double quick. They are a lot better than the chocolate tea I have just written about -I am sure. A pity about the calories, but once in a while why not? -especially if they are that good!
