Advantages: Look classy but they're not expensive, Larger than average size, well made praline & choc, Taste as good as a fresh handmade chocolate
Disadvantages: I wish they did bigger boxes!
If you are stuck for something to buy for anyone whether it be for Christmas, birthday or whatever, these are ideal. They are also a nice alternative to after dinner mints for a special meal or just for nibbling on in front of the TV. The box and chocs look luxurious, ok so they cost a bit more than your usual Milk Tray or After Eights, but be brave...open your wallet and make someone feel extra special!! They really are worth that little bit extra. These always go down well with our family members, even my Mum and she is not a huge fan of praline, but she considers these to be more of a firm mousse, not dry like some pralines. I think you can alway tell a good box of chocolates from the smell and as soon as you open a box of Guylian Seashells you can smell the quality of the chocolate from the cocoa aroma. The size of the chocs are larger than average, which feels like an indulgence in itself. The praline centre is an excellent consistency, not too gooey, but not too hard or powdery like some boxed pralines. These are almost as good as a fresh handmade praline which you don't often find with boxed choclates. I love the way the praline is enrobed in a marbled-effect mix of white and milk choclate - normally a praline will be encased in a bland milk chocolate, but the white choc adds something extra - more creamy I guess... the chocolate is spot-on and doesn't leave an unsatisfying taste in the mouth and I love the way the chocolate is so glossy, this is what gives it's classy indulgent appearance. The shapes are nice too - all different seashells and starfish (I think the starfish are the biggest, so grab those if you really must share!) - and the detail on them makes them look almost real, though by the time you've noticed the detail you'll have gobbled two or three! All in all a great buy, I don't think you can go wrong with these.

- 11/11/01 Heehee, the original was better by far than my first opinion, believe me! |

- 11/11/01 Ready to eat if your review had more detail about the chocs. |

- 11/11/01 As everyone else has said more detail would help. I like these chocolates but don't think they are as nice as similar chocolates actually bought in Belgium (though obviously it's cheaper than going to Belgium just for some chocolates :). Let me know if you update and I'll come back to reread and rerate. |
