Advantages: Lots to choose from
Disadvantages: Not so good if you absolutely hate liquorice with a passion
I had forgotton about these wonderful sweets until recently when I saw them hanging off a shelf in my local Co op. I just had to have a bag and they take full responsibility for the 1lb of weight that I gained last week.
In my opinion Haribo sweets are just amazing and most of them are the best of their kind and these sweets are absolutely no exception.
Inside the bag are a variety of very tiny sweets that are just amazing to the taste. There are literally hundreds in the bag because the sweets are so small and they cost me £1.07 for a 200g bag.
I will now attempt to explain each sweet individually so you know exactly what you are getting.
Liquorice Alsorts.
These are liquorice alsorts but not as we know it! Some one has taken that gun from the film 'Honey I shrunk the kids' and used it on them. They are about the size of a baby fingernail and being a woman, I h ave to say that they look extremely cute! There are the brown square ones that taste like chocolate, pink ones and lots of the circular ones with a tube of liquorice through the middle.
Now I really don't like liquorice but these really are lovely. I think because they are so small and the existence of the liquorice isn't as vast as the usual ones, you get more of candy that surrounds the liquorice rather than that unmistakable 'liquoricey' taste. Each colour tastes different and you can get loads in your mouth at one time if you like that sort of thing. I personally prefer to eat them one by one savouring each taste.
There are more of these in the bag than anything else so if you don't really think that you would like these then I wouldn't advise you to pick up a bag.
Jelly hearts.
These are of course hearts that are made of jelly. They come in the regular red but there are also a few greens and yellows thrown in too for good fortune.
Dummies.
These are exactly the same as the hearts but they are in the shape of little, tiny dummies. They are so 'jellified' that they bounce off your teeth when you try and bite into them.
Circles.
I have left these until last because they are quite hard to explain and there's probably no chance that you will understand my description without actually seeing them for yourself. Imagine a circle that is made of jelly but is hollow in the middle aprat from a line of jelly that divides the circle into two halves. Lets say for the example that the jelly is green. One half of the circle is then filled with the candy that covers a liquorice alsort but it is yellow and the other side is blue. Thats as good as my explanation gets I'm afraid.
These sweets have an odd texture but they are very nice indeed and depending on the colours that you pick out will depend on what the flavour is like.
I like to empty out the bag and divide these sweets into piles and eat them according to how I feel at that moment. They really are very satisfying and after half a bag, I find that I have had enough as they are quite sweet.
When I was scanning the back of the pack I was quite put off by the fact that there are things like beetroot and spinach concentrate in the sweets. It didn't actually stop me from eating them though.
These sweets are so high in sugar it's quite disturbing really. 100g will give you 62.5g of sugar along with 0.7g of fat and 348 calories. Not the healthiest of treats but it's too late for me now!!!
I would definately recommend these if you can find bag. They don't seem to be widely available and I have only seen them at the Coop in my area.
Summary: I love these.
