Advantages: So simple. And the great taste of course
Disadvantages: May get boring if consumed too often, I suppose
I'm not a fan of tomatoes. You know, with the seeds and the skin, and the general weird squidgy tomato inners (I'm fairly sure that's official technical tomato industry terminology). In my opinion there's just not much going for them. I don't even think real tomatoes taste that good. Tomato soup on the other hand...
Hang on, firstly lets learn a little more about me (don't worry, I won't hold you back long). Basically I have the taste bud sophistication of an infant. And a relatively unadventurous infant at that. My previous food reviews have been on toblerone, hula hoops and tesco value noodles, for crying out loud!! Having said all that, I don't think it's something I should hide away or be embarrassed about. There are plenty of people like me out there. I'm not afraid to stand up and say "My name's David. I'm an adult and quite often I like to eat food that doesn't have bits in it!"
Anyway, I'm not just airing my weirdness for no good reason, I do have a point. The point is that Heinz Cream of Tomato soup really is very tasty. Yes, I know it's often regarded as the plainest, most boring of the soups in the soup world, and it doesn't have numerous exotic or strangely named ingredients. But, and this is quite a big 'but', who cares, it still tastes really good. You may well have enjoyed it as a child and now think you're too grown up for childish old ('childish old' does that work?) tomato soup. Even if you do go for tomato soup you still have to justify it to yourself by having 'Sun-Dried Kabocha Tomato and Thai basil soup' or some other needlessly fancy alternative. Nooooooooo, you don't need to. All you need is a straight forward can of Heinz Cream of Tomato Soup. It even comes in a handy ring pull opening can these days, not that I'm saying you couldn't use a can opener, of course you could (unless you've no thumbs - you might need to see my hula hoop review to understand that reference).
I'm not going to patronise you by explaining how to 'cook' canned soup, we all know you just gently heat it on the hob , without bringing to the boil, and then serve (with a side plate of completely fresh bread with a generous helping of proper butter).
Health-wise a 200g serving of this superb soup comes with the following nutritional stats:
Energy - 113k
Sat fat - 0.4g
Sodium - 0.6g
Salt equiv. - 1.4g
Sounds pretty healthy, but you can sort that out with the heavily buttered bread.
Any questions?? No, thought not. Now let's all go out and buy some creamy smoothy Heinz Tomato Soup today (or when ever you're next doing your big shop). It still tastes good.
Summary: A Great Britsh classic that you shouldn't grow out of!
