Advantages: Great taste, easy to cook

Disadvantages: Could be cheaper!

Today I decided to have a bit of a blast from the past for my lunch. I'd picked up a can of Heinz Cream of Tomato soup, and I honestly couldn't remember the last time I'd had it. So I was hoping t was going to be as good as I remember. Heinz tomato was always something I had when I was little, especially if I was ever ill or wanted something nice and warm - it's a great comfort food.

A 300g 'mug sized' can, will now set you back a whopping 60p. Which may seem cheap for some decent soup, but I remember when Heinz was much, much cheaper! The can has it's traditional packaging, with the red label and cooking instructions on the back.

You can cook the soup in the microwave if you're short on time, but I prefer to do it in a saucepan if I can. It only takes a few minutes to warm up, and is probably one of the simplest things you'll ever have to cook.

The soup has a creamy orangey colour to it, which doesn't really change after cooking as is quite traditional to tomato soups. The flavour is the bit I remember most. I've never really tried another tomato soup which has the creaminess or Heinz factor to it (although I've recently read a couple of review for own brands which I might try out!) I'm pleased to say it still tastes as good! It's rich, creamy and tomato-y.

The ingredients:
Tomatoes 84% (glad its quite high!)
Water
Vegetable Oil
Sugar
Modified Cornflour
Salt
Dried Skimmed Milk
Milk Proteins
Cream
Spice Extracts
Herb Extract
Citric Acid

The soup is suitable for vegetarians, and anyone on a gluten free diet. It contains no artificial colours, flavourings or preservatives, but doesn't state any other allergy information as regards to nuts etc. Once opened, if you're not having the whole can it can be stored in a covered container in the fridge, but needs to be eaten within 2 days.

Overall, a good tasting soup which is a great classic - perfect at any time of the day and a great winter warmer!

Summary: 9/10

The best tomato soup (from a tin) is undoubtedly Heinz's.
