Advantages: Very Creamy, Tastes Gorgeous, Nice Consistency

Disadvantages: Radioactive Colour

Looking through my cupboard of various tins, etc. I came across the perfect food - Heinz cream of tomato soup. Standing out on my shelf in its bright red tin, it screamed out for me to eat it!

PRODUCT AND PACKAGING
Heinz cream of tomato soup is bright red coloured soup. It is thick and creamy, and tastes of, well, tomatoes! It is good to eat because it contains no artificial colours, preservatives, flavours or GM ingredients. Also for people who are vegetarians or are on a gluten-free diet, you can eat this too! The soup comes in a bright red tin with a decorative edge of tomatoes around the label, which is black and on the front and back that states the product name and other bits and pieces, such as ingredients, cooking guidelines, etc. Each 200g serving is 128 calories for those of you who calorie count. The packaging does stand out on the shelf and I rarely have any problems finding it in the supermarkets.

PRICE
A 400g tin cost me 46p from Tesco's. There are soup for one tins that are much smaller, and cost around 30p.

WHERE TO PURCHASE
You can buy tomato soup in loads of places. This one was from Tesco's, although it can be found in supermarkets, spar shops, even my local newsagent has a couple of tins on the shelves.

SMELL
Before cooking, you get a fairly strong smell of creamy tomato. This soon fills the air really strongly when being cooked! It makes my mouth water as soon as it does this, whilst I'm eagerly anticipating my first mouthful of the stuff.

TASTE
Oh boy, talk about delicious! A creamy tomato taste rushes into your mouth. My favourite thing to do is to butter some crusty bread and dip it into the soup - you can't beat it. After I've had a couple of slices of bread in my soup, I finish it off with a spoon but it's not as nice. After eating this, you get a pleasant tomato aftertaste in your mouth that stays for a while, but I don't mind because its nice tast
ing. The soup feels like silk going down your throat, really thick and smooth.

LIKES/DISLIKES/OTHER INFO
My likes about this soup is that it is really quick to make and easy, Im a rubbish cook and this is just a matter of sticking it in the microwave for two minutes or in a pan for a few minutes. It does taste better cooked on the hob I personally feel. My only dislike is that the bright colour of the soup does look worrying but after reading the label the colour is natural from the ingredients. This stuff is really good for your 5 fruit/veg a day intake - just ½ a can is equal to two portions of fruit and veg - and I usually eat a whole can! The tins have a long shelf life - my can is ok until mid 2004 so I can buy a load and have them in my cupboard for emergencies.

OVERALL
I love this soup. It is of amazing quality but then with Heinz it usually is. I've never found another brand of tomato soup that has ever matched the thick creamy taste of this one. I recommend this to anyone because it is suitable for just about anyone!

Great review and product. A product that thankfully hasn't changed, apart from price, since I was a kid, many moons ago.
