Advantages: Great taste, goes with lots of things
Disadvantages: High in fat, not made with free range eggs
When I saw this on the shelves of Tesco, I was looking for ordinary light mayo but somehow it managed to join my intended purchase in the trolley - no way to explain it other than the fact that I have very little willpower!
In the main, it seemed to me like the kind of yummy meal accompaniment that you get in restaurants (I'm thinking of the kind of thing you dip your breaded mushrooms etc into) and that you never quite can replicate at home without a great deal of messing about with egg yolks.
Not having any breaded mushrooms on hand that evening, I decided to try it out with some curly fries and it tasted absolutely gorgeous that I didn't want to stop eating it. However, I did eventually reign myself in by thinking of the fact that it certainly isn't a healthy treat (but let's face it, I wasn't doing well but eating it with curly fries).
I've tried it with cold meats, a dob on a jacket potato, in sandwiches with beef and as a dip with crisps at a family party and there certainly wasn't any left in the pot that night. The taste is creamy and flavoursome - I wouldn't say it's overpowering at all but you might not want to breath too heavily over non-consumers afterwards as it does leave a bit of a garlic tang.
It is free from artificial colours, flavours and additives but I would have been happier if it was made with free range eggs (it doesn't say it is so I guess that it isn't). Once you've opened it, you need to keep it in the fridge and consume within four weeks (not too much of a problem there)
It cost £1.39 for 290g (a medium size jar's worth) which is good value I think as it is really only a special occasion item it certainly can put a bit of zing into a standard, can't really be bothered to be creative type of meal.
Summary: Lazy way to pep up your sandwich, snack or meal
