Advantages: Convenient to prepare.

Disadvantages: Not as nutritious as home made.

Heinz Minestrone soup is a suitable choice for vegetarians. It's one of my favourite choices from their range and has a dominating tomato flavour that is responsible for the rich red appearance of the soup. Other vegetables, herbs and spices also contribute to what I consider to be a highly satisfying taste. The pasta pieces add to the texture and provide the soup with a consistency that makes minestrone soup so unique. Although the soup is not watery I would say it has a thinner consistency than Heinz vegetable soup. Most importantly the soup doesn't splash significantly if surplus quantities are displaced from the spoon and fall back into the bowl during consumption.

The soup requires little preparation and should only be heated for about five minutes. You should stir the contents as the soup is heated. It is important not to let the soup boil as this will affect the flavour and possibly destroy nutrients. A couple of rounds of buttered bread along with a tin of this soup make a very happy filling meal that is bound to put a smile on your belly.

Heinz Minestrone is sold in the usual 400g can with a pull back ring for easy opening. The soups are clearly identified by the well known Heinz logo and all the ingredients and nutritional information is clearly listed on the reverse of the can. The last time of checking the price of a tin was around 80p although you sometimes get special offers.

I very rarely buy tinned soup at all (I think you really need to grow up as a Brit to get into this habit) as it's so easy to make my own and even freeze (and also it would be a ridiculously expensive enterprise for a family of four).

But I wonder what are you basing your claim that it's not as nutritious as home made?

Never yet got the hang of using the ring pull on cans of soup without spilling the contents all over the place :0)

Minestrone always reminds me of burnt rubber, or elastic bands...
