Advantages: Quick / tasty / low calorie

Disadvantages: None

As part of my healthier eating regime, I have started having soup for my lunch at work and as a result I have slowly worked my way through a large portion of Heinz's range. As a result, I can now say that of all the ones I've tried ,the minestrone is one of my favourites, largely because I think it offers an excellent taste for a healthy number of calories - vital stat's are 128 calories and 0.6g of fat (trace of saturated fat) per 400g tin. I am slowly working my way through the stash of these that I bought whilst ASDA were doing a two for £1 offer. This has finished recently and the price is 82p, which I think is about average.

I have found that a number of lower calorie soups look and tend to taste rather watery. This is something the minestrone is not. It is quite a thick soup and full of flavour. For all those that are not calorie counting, something that I have done once or twice, as a treat, is to follow the serving suggestion on the tin and add cheese to the soup. The tin suggest adding parmesan shavings, my personal choice is to add a few small chunks of a nice strong cheddar, giving them enough time to melt a little in the hot soup.

From the tin, which comes with a ring pull top so no can opener required, the soup contains gluten, wheat, egg, celery and celeriac. It is suitable for vegetarians and has no artificial colours, flavouring or preservatives.
The soup can be cooked on the hob (heat gently for about five minutes stirring occasionally) or be nuked in the microwave in 3 minutes. In my opinion best results come from cooking on the hob.

Summary: A good quality soup
