Advantages: tasty, rich in colour and texture, healthy
Disadvantages: pricey
After having such a successful experience with the Weight Watchers Tuna and Mayonnaise filler, I decided to give the other flavours a try, one of which being the Tuna with Tomato and Herb Dressing. I thought that the tomato was going to create a peculiar combination with the tuna, but nevertheless I tried it anyway, and was not at all disappointed!
This was not a cheap purchase, at £1.80 for just three cans at Asda, so I could only hope they were worth of such a pricey label. After positioning my bread ready for it to meet the filling, I peeled back the ring pull on the little can. The can itself held 80g of filling, and looked quite dainty and cute. When I removed the sharp lid, the filling was revealed in all its prime. It was incredibly rich in a shade of red, only a few specks of green herb visible. The tuna was peeking out in between the sauce, so tempting and tormenting!
The contents smelled as delicious as it looked! As I spread it out onto my sandwich, the large amount of filling that came tumbling out let off a scent so strong and distinctive; tomato puree. If it tasted half as good, I was in for a real treat!
With my sandwich now cut in half and my self plopped down at the table, I was ready to eat. My senses were tingling with glee, my taste buds jumping up and down, awaiting the taste. I took a decent sized bite and explored the new-found taste. The tuna was definitely present in texture, very flakey, though it could not be tasted too much. However, the creamy tomato dressing was quite the opposite! It's taste was so glorious and powerful, but not in any way too strong! Once I had finished the sandwich, I finally realised what it reminded me of; the tomato sauce in Heinz pasta shapes.
The Heinz Weight Watchers filling provided me with an incredibly delicious and satisfying lunch, and worth the price, although I doubt it would be something everybody would enjoy!

Health and Nutrition'

Having a healthy lifestyle is very important to me, and I always try my best to eat right. Weight Watchers products are almost guaranteed to be healthy and 'good for you', though a closer inspection was required!
Each 80g can contains;
80 calories
4g carbohydrates (3.3g sugars)
2.9g fat (0.2g saturates)
0.4g fibre
1 weight watchers point
The main ingredients include; tuna, tomatoes, water, concentrated tomato puree, onions, rapeseed oil, red peppers, sugar, white wine vinegar, mustard, salt, garlic, modified cornflour, vinegar, colour (paprika extract), herbs, spices, stabiliser (guar gum, xanthan gum).
Allergy information:: contains fish and mustard.
Looking at that, all seems fine to me! Usually, a half-can of tuna contains on average 70 calories alone, and that's before you add the dressing! There does not seem to be much in the ingredients in terms of negative products, so all seems fine!
Weight Watchers
---------------------
Weight Watchers is a world wide company, which not only offers help and support for dieters and those trying to slim or just eat healthy, but they also provide a wide range of food products for everybody to enjoy!
Weight Watchers holds local meetings throughout the UK for members to attend for that little extra help and support, but also provides plenty of information on the internet, as well as producing a variety of books and magazines, which are all crammed with top tips and hints!
They have a points system, rather than counting calories. This makes it easier to calculate how much you can eat in a day!
Like myself, not everybody who enjoys Weight Watchers products needs them - they are suitable for anybody! They often provide a much healthier alternative, which is probably the reason why I personally choose to use them, but they also have a wide variety of foods available, many of which simply taste much nicer! Though, I can imagine for those who do require these products for weight loss, I can only assume they work!
How Does It Compare?
-----------------------------
After having sampled all four of the Weight Watchers tuna products (mayonnaise and sweetcorn, mango chutney, coronation style dressing & tomato and herb dressing), I have managed to position this one third-top in the flavour rank. Although I prefer the mango chutney and the mayonnaise and sweetcorn, this one is delicious and worthy of third place! It's flavour is not as appetising than the other two, although it is much richer than the coronation style dressing. Also, this one makes a lot more mess too, and leaves little red stains on my fingers. It would not be my first choice, however it is delectable all the same.
Would I Recommend?
---------------------------
I had no problem recommending the other Weight Watchers Tuna products, and this one is no different! Though, it may not appeal to all! Of course, you should really like tuna before you try this, otherwise it's just a waste of money from the beginning! I'd suggest you stay clear if you dislike tomato ketchup or puree too, as the taste is somewhat identical.
Texture is a big issue here too; it's incredibly creamy and leaves a fascinating sensation in the mouth once consumed. If you do not like unique textures, then this is not the way to go.
If you are on the Weight Watchers diet, I assume this would be an ideal product for you to pack into a sandwich, as the points are clearly stated, and would allow you to easily follow the diet. Although, as I am not on the plan myself, I cannot assure you that it definitely works!
In all, this is a delicious and healthy tuna product and certainly worth a try if the bill fits!
*****
I am pleased I tried this, and have now added it to my regular shopping list, along with several other John West/Weight Watchers tuna products. It provided me with a deliciously tangy and creamy filling for my sandwich which I'm sure I will enjoy for a while!

- 08/10/08 Nominated! An insightful and well written review! I've tried these and I do agree they are delicious. I've never tried it in a sandwich actually - I've eaten it out of the tin with a fork when I've been at work and they do taste lovely. I have to say my favourites are the tomato and herb closely followed by the sweetcorn and mayo. Mmm tuna! Excellent review :) |
