Advantages: Healthy snack
Disadvantages: You need to like fish to eat this
If you have read my Princes Slimming World Tuna review then you will know that I am not normally a great lover of tuna as I always find it to be a dull type of fish dish. Quite dry in fact unless smothered in some kind of oil. Good for you, I know, but not very appetising. A while back whilst browsing in the supermarket, I caught sight of a pack of three tins of tuna called "Weightwatchers from Heinz" so I decided to take a closer look. I picked up the tomato & herb variety and took a closer look at the contents section. I always look immediately at the nutrional information and check out the kcals and saturated fat contents. One can is 80 kcal with 0.2g of saturated fat content. The can is approximately 2.5" in diamater x 1.5" height. Not a large tin by any means but certainly enought for one person. If you are anything like me, I open a normal size tin of tuna, take a bit out, then end up throwing the rest away because I didn't want any more. So really this size is very good for people living alone. It does say on the can that the product is also dolphin friendly which is good to know. Brilliant I thought, but does it taste nice? Well, the only way to find out is to buy it and see! So, into the shopping trolley goes a 3-pack of this WW tuna. Shopping duly put away into the cupboards, fridge etc and to be quite honest this 3 pack was put at the back of the cupboard and totally forgotten about! A few weeks ago I slept in and was rushing to get washed and ready for work. I realised I hadn't prepared any food to take into work for my lunch and thought "hell, what can I take? I don't want to go into the restaurant " (because although the food is delicious it is laden with calories/cream and I didn't fancy a salad), Then I saw this 3-
pack tuna I had bought and thought, what the hell I'll just take my wholemeal brown bread and take the can, sliced tomato and put it together at lunchtime. Lunchtime came and I was quite apprehensive about eating this tuna. I need not have feared! I went out for a walk at lunchtime, near the river, yes I know I am lucky to be able to have my lunch near the river but it was a nice day and I needed some fresh air and vitamin D! So, out comes the lunch box and I open the can of tuna - it has an easy pull ring opening (so no need for a can opener!). I was greeted with a lovely scene of quite big chunks of tuna in a lovely thick tomato and herb dressing. I expected it to be a watery dressing but was very pleasantly surprised. I got my knife and spread the tuna onto my bread (which did not have any type of spread on it - yes, I know, I am very good on this diet at the moment). There was more than enough tuna to be put into this sandwich (2 slices of large wholemeal brown bread). It spread easily and did not run out of the sandwich (can you just imagine this tuna and dressing with little legs running out of the sandwich? What a sight that would be!). I then placed the sliced tomato on top and finished making the sandwich. I wondered whether it would taste dry because the sandwich didn't have any spread on it but no, it was absolutely delicious. The tomato and herb dressing was more than enough to moisten the bread yet at the same time keeping the bread fresh and not making it soggy. My first bite of this sandwich was wonderful (especially as I was hungry by this time) - the tuna didn't seem dry and the dressing was full of texture and flavour. Needless to say, I didn't leave a crumb - not even for the birds or the swans that gather round the river! Sorry chaps, not today! This sandwich was so delicious that I
didn't want to drop a crumb! I can't remember exactly how much I paid for these but I think it was around the £1.69 mark which is expensive but then it is a Weightwatchers product but, in my view, worth every penny because not one part of this tuna was wasted! Good economics in my book any day. If I bought cheap tins of tuna in the past then I would inevitably end of throwing the unused portions out.
