Hershey's Reese's Cups
Advantages: Very tasty with a nice texture
Disadvantages: Extremely sweet - which is good for some, not so good for others
When my granddaughter came to visit last week she handed me a flat chocolate disc which sat in it's own paper case. Even without seeing the garish orange wrapper it was plain that this was a Hershey's Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, not least because of the strong aroma of peanut butter escaping from beneath the chocolate.
Hershey's is an American brand which has been launched here in the UK in recent years, we do not have the full range as yet but these Peanut Butter Cups are fairly widely available both in supermarkets and through online retailers.
A Reese's Peanut Butter Cup will quite possibly be the most cloyingly sweet product you have ever eaten, the milk chocolate alone is quite sugary and the encased peanut butter has been sweetened to within an inch of it's life. They are for when you really do need an injection of sugar, perhaps to get you moving after a long day at work or even if you simply fancy a very sweet treat.
I adore the texture of them, the peanut butter has a solid consistency, it's softer than the surrounding chocolate and that gives the Cup a delightfully unusual texture. As you bite into the chocolate, and the chocolate is fairly tough, your teeth will break through to the wonderfully soft and smooth peanut butter which will then release it's flavour and sweetness.
The chocolate has soaked up the flavour of the peanut butter so it's hard to differentiate between the two flavours within the Cups. It's not a particularly high quality chocolate and is more chewable than actually melting in your mouth, however when combined with the peanut butter it creates a more creamy and pleasing texture overall. This isn't the sort of peanut butter you would want to eat on a sandwich, it's far too sweet for that and the sweetening process has robbed it of it's natural peanut flavour somewhat. However, in a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup the peanut butter is delicious and the extreme level of sweetness will certainly satisfy and cravings your sweet tooth throws at you.
You can purchase Hershey's Peanut Butter Cups in packs of two or three, it's a shame you cannot buy them singly as many people can only manage one and the peanut butter centres dry up rather quickly so it's not really a viable option to eat one and save the other for the following day.
Overall, these delightful Peanut Butter Cups are completely recommended by me. It's not their fault that some (older!) people find them so incredibly sickly, although it should be said that going to brush your teeth after consuming one would not be a bad idea.
Summary: If your teeth and waistline can stand it I definitely recommend Hershey's Peanut Butter Cups
