Advantages: lovely milk chocolate with an amazing peanut butter centre! handy packs of 3
Disadvantages: no nutritional values listed
Peanut Butter Cups are made by American chocolate manufacturer Hershey's, and are part of the Reese's range. You can get hold of these easily in the United States and I fell in love with the peanut butter & chocolate combo. You can import order these chocolate bars, or if you are lucky you may find that your local supermarket stocks them. I buy mine from Tesco's where they are available on the sweet counter near the checkouts (they're not located in the main aisle with other types of chocolate and confectionery). It costs 57p for a 51g pack.
The mega bright orange packaging does stand out and make it noticeable, but I find it rather ugly. The Peanut Butter Cups come in a simple plastic wrapper with a cardboard try inside for stability. You get three cups per package and they are individually wrapped in brown paper cases similar to cupcakes.
The cups are a little unusual to look at and look quite different to most normal chocolate that comes in a simple bar form. Here, you have a small flat disc shaped chocolate in a round paper case. The chocolate itself is a nice ordinary milk chocolate flavour and doesn't taste too harsh or synthetic as you might expect from an American chocolate. It's creamy and melts easily, which is lovely when you bit through to the centre section. Inside the chocolate shell is a delicious peanut butter centre! It is a nice smooth peanut butter and it has a lovely gooey texture that gives a wonderful flavour as it combines with the melting milk chocolate. Overall this tastes very sugary and you will need to have quite the sweet tooth to really appreciate it.
Although there are three cups per packet, they are quite small and don't satisfy any hunger cravings. I find it all too easy to devour the whole package in one sitting, so I normally take advantage of the individual wrappings and separate the cups out so I take only one at a time. They fit neatly into a lunch box as they are very small, and this works better for me as I really can't resist temptation when it comes to these Peanut Butter Cups!
After checking the packaging I could not find any nutritional values listed, so I think it is probably safe to say that these are quite far along the unhealthy scale! For those who consider the origins of their food and ingredients important, you may want to take note that there are genetically modified crops used in the base ingredients. This isn't something that I am overly concerned about, but it did make for interesting reading.
This is a fantastic tasting chocolate treat, and the peanut butter centre makes it unique and different to the other chocolate bars available. I would definitely recommend it to others, it's a lovely treat and has a great flavour that stands out and will be appreciated by peanut butter fans.
