Handy Hints For Cooking-

Now I am not much of a cook and have always been honest about this fact so my review is about some products that can make your life easier especially if you have children and are pushed for time-

My first is a product I cannot be without and was recommended to me by a work colleague a few months ago.

Aunt Bessie's Frozen Mashed Potatoes-
The potatoes come in small round circles and are packaged together in a plastic Aunt Bessie's bag. To cook you simply pop the required amount (usually 4 circles) into the microwave and cook for approx. 3 mins. You then ad some milk and butter and serve. Now these really taste good. They taste nicer than any potato I have every made. They do have a slightly increased calorie and fat content but are still healthy. They are available in most supermarkets and cost around £2.30 for a bag of approx 25 circles (5 adult portions)

Next is the George Foreman Grill
These are widely available and cost around £20. I find them not only the healthiest but also the quickest and easiest way of cooking. Simply plug in, allow to heat and pop the food under. Great if you're not a big cooking fan. They are suitable for all meats and I quite often use to grill salmon.

Carrot & Swede-
My local supermarket is Tesco and they sell large diced bags of Carrot and Swede. I find this a godsend if I am in a rush. I use this to make lentil soup. Simply empty the contents into a pot, add some lentils, salt and pepper, a stock cube and some water and boil for a couple of hours. Really quick nutritious food. This is also useful for making stews; simply throw in a couple of handfuls.

Ready made fairy Cakes-
My daughter is very young and my kitchen is not really big enough or suitable to do a lot of cooking with her. What I do is to buy Tesco value or Asda Smart Price fairy cakes (pack of 12 cost approx. 50p) and them my daughter and I ice them together. She has great fun and they taste great.

One last thing-
I love sprouts but not everyone does. If you have someone who doesn't like sprouts try adding a tablespoon of sugar to the water when boiling, obviously this adds some calories but the difference in taste is amazing. It takes all of the bitterness out of them.
