Advantages: cheap and easy
Disadvantages: none
Vegetables can become very boring if you always cook them in the same way. I think that's why so many people (especially kids) don't like them. It's so easy to add that extra special something to them. TOMATOES(OK, maybe a fruit): Roast in the oven. Simply cut a cross on the top and brush with balsamic vinegar, sprinkle with brown sugar...gorgeous! CAULIFLOWER: Boil in a pan with a lid for about 20 minutes. Add a sprig of mint, a pinch of salt and a good squirt of fresh lemon juice. The cauli will stay white and the flavour is great. CARROTS: Boil with basil, or roast in a hot oven after brushing with honey. You get a lovely sticky glazed carrot and these are especially good with a Sunday roast. AUBERGINES: Add some caraway seeds and a dash of vinegar before frying. SPROUTS: Boil in the normal way with marjoram and parsley to flavour. Put some fresh white breadcrumbs in a small pan and lightly toast them in a little butter. Add the sprouts. Even those who are not keen on ordinary brussel sprouts might be willing to try these. I find that the kids like them. There are, of course, lots of other combinations of herbs, spices, etc that you can try out with vegetables but these are the simplest and none of them call for any expensive ingredients. These are all easy, fast, and anybody can do them. Go on, show off your culinary skills. Even if you are on a budget you can make a meal taste very special. You don't have to tell anyone that you learned to cook on Dooyoo!
