Advantages: Healthy and hammered
Disadvantages: Time consuming
Ive come up with the perfect combination for those of you who try your best to be healthy but cant resist the temptation to get bladered every other weekend (more or less everyone) which can reverse all the healthy meals youve eaten that week by drying up your skin and just leaving you feeling rubbish in general.
I bought a simple blender for about £15 last summer with the idea of making healthy fruit smoothies, soups and other liquidy delights, but soon started neglecting it for the easier option of the never ending supply of cold beer in my student-like kitchen fridge.
One hot july afternoon to my dismay the beer had run dry and all that was left someone elses bottle of smirnoff vodka and a load of fruit, i found some ice cubes in the freezer and a carton of orange juice and began to make my now famous alcoholic fruit smoothies.
I was amazed at how much energy they gave me, they made me feel brilliant, obviously i was a bit tipsy but the combination of that with the masive vitamin surge from the fruit felt great compared to drinking beer which sometimes makes me feel quite tired and grogy.
Here are some of my favourite combinations:
1 banana
8 strawberries
2 kiwi fruit
1 handful blueberries
Vodka (as much as you like, just use good quality vodka)
400ml Orange juice
6-8 ice cubes
Method:
peel and prepare all the fruit, cut into small peices so that they blend easily. Add the orange juice and banana to start, blend for about 10 seconds. keep adding more fruit in handfulls blending for about 10 seconds then repeating. finaly add the ice and blend for anouther 30 seconds. Serve straight away.
Half a pinaapple
2 kiwi fruit
Juice of one lemon
1 banana
Vodka (as much as you like)
400ml Apple juice
6-8 ice cubes
Method:
Same as above and just squeeze the juice of the lemon straight into the blender.
Both of these smoothies serve 3 people having large glasses and cost about £4 to make.
Advice:
I always try to use fruits that have the most goodness in them, mainly vitamins. For example kiwi fruit has a higher vitamin C content than orange so i usually bung a few of them in. I really like using blueberries too as they are high in anti-toxidents and vitamin C as well. Bananas are great for energy so when your drinking them in an alcoholic smoothie its like a natural red bull (almost!!)
I know these are definatly more apropriate in the summer, but with all the colds going around theyre great to give your immune system a boost in the winter months as well and have a blast getting wasted!!
Summary: Get involved.............
