Advantages: Exquisit, Easy to prepare, Delicious

Disadvantages: Sound complicated

Alcholic mix - sure I've got just the right one for you.

This receipe is about 300 years old. Lately, one would add a dash of cream and a pecan nut to each serving, but in the old days these ingredients were not available.
All the same, without the latest additions, the pudding is delicious and very easy to prepare.

The Pudding
-----------

250 grams stoned dates, diced
250 ml boiling water
5 ml bicaronate of soda
100 grams butter or margarine at room temperature
250 ml castor sugar
1 extra large egg at room temperature
300 ml flour
pinch of salt
2.5 ml baking powder
125 ml chopped pecan nuts

Sprinkle bicarbonate of soda over the dates. Pour the boiling water over the dates and allow to cool.
Cream the butter and sugar in a mixing bowl. When the mixture is light and creamy, gradually beat in the eggs. Sift the dry ingredients a few times. Alternatively fold the dry ingredients and the date mixture into a creamed mixture, using a metal spoon.
Pour into a greased 25 cm pie dish.
Bake at 180 degree celsius for 45 minutes and until dark brown.
Prpeare the sauce and pour over the hot tart.

The Sauce
---------

200 ml sugar
200 ml water
15 ml butter or margarine
5 ml vanilla essence
125 ml good quality brand. Add 150 ml if you want.

Bring the sugar, water and butter to boil. Remove from the heat and add the vanilla and the brandy.
Pour the warm sauce over the tart and leave to cool.
Pipe a large curl of cream on each serving and a sprinkling of pecan nuts.
Serve either hot or cold.

You've got to try this one out. Suggest you leave it for the weekend though.
