Advantages: healthy & delicious

Disadvantages: none

I love drinking homemade smoothies in summer. I'm working full time at the moment (stupid university tuition fees) and the fruity drinks are a quick and delicious way to contribute to my 5-a-day.

Smoothies are easy to make, you need fresh fruit, ice and some fantasy. These are my favourite recipes - not all are healthy though.

--------------------------------
The Rainbow Mix
--------------------------------
This is my favourite smoothie, mostly because you can use all the fruit you find in your fridge.
I'll normally take:

- 3 Strawberries (red)
- 3 plums (Yellow)
- 1 kiwi (green)
- 3 blackberries (blue/purple)

Blend together, serve on the rocks or with crushed ice. Takes a few seconds and is full of vitamins.

--------------------------------
Blueberry sour
--------------------------------
For a nice and refreshing Blueberry & Pineapple sour shake you need

- 50g blueberries
- 100g pineapple cut in small squares
- juice of half a lime
- a hint of sugar cane sugar

- Mix the pineapple with the sugar and the lime
- blend till it's smooth
- add blueberries and blend briefly
- serve with crushed ice

Blueberries are really cheap in summer and taste quite different from the usual berries such as strawberries and raspberries. They work really well in combination with the sour pineapple.

--------------------------------
Raspberry Rippler
--------------------------------
This one is a real sin, but one that is worth to be committed. For a Raspberry & Vanilla shake you need

- 150g raspberries
- 50g of vanilla ice cream
- 100ml milk

- blend 100g of the raspberries with the ice cream and the milk till it's a smooth shake. Add the remaining raspberries, blend for 5 seconds.

Serve with whipped cream on top - enjoy and don't think about the calories.

--------------------------------
Choc & Fruit
--------------------------------
This is a great drink with an intensive raspberry taste. The cocoa powder takes the edge of from this smoothie and adds a new dimension to it.

- 150g raspberries (frozen raspberries are fine)
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 150ml orange juice

Blend the raspberries with the orange juice. Mix with the cocoa powder and enjoy a great treat!

--------------------------------
Iced Berry & Mocha
--------------------------------
Ok, this one needs a bit more preparation but it's well worth it!

- 50g mixed berries
- 2 shots of espresso
- teaspoon of cocoa powder
- 50ml of milk
- crushed ice

- Prepare the espresso, mix with the cocoa powder and allow to cool down. Add the milk and blend the whole mix with the berries and the crushed ice.

The Iced Mocha has a rich taste of both coffee and chocolate with the interesting taste of the berries. The milk is optional, it makes the drink milder.

--------------------------------

Summary: Have fun trying these smoothies!
