Isn't it funny How a bear likes honey? Buzz! Buzz! Buzz! I wonder why he does? (A.A. Milne, Winnie the Pooh, 1926) I am getting to that point in my workload now where I am feeling pretty stressed - as sugar is supposed to be a sedative I have been looking out for my fixes in as many different ways as possible of late. Oh, I know, it's any excuse for me! Well, it just so happens that honey happens to be one of my favourites; as far as I am concerned, it is right up there with chocolate as hallowed comfort food. I suppose it is partly because I associate it so much with my childhood, as my mother used it as a sweetener instead of ... Read the complete review

Honey is one of the most amazing things - the only food not to go off, it can still be eaten thousands of years later (not that that will benefit us because we will be dead!) Yes, they have found honey in the pyramids that is absolutely fine! Honey is made by bees. It is made by them for their own food source, but we steal it and eat it instead. It is incredibly sweet and rich in taste, and makes a very versatile product. Did you know that honey can change state every now and again? If it becomes crystalised you can just pop it in the microwave and it will become liquid again. I know that because of Kath. Who? Kath - from work, who keeps ... Read the complete review

Where does honey come from? Honey Bees of course! But how? Well, here goes with all the facts you've always wanted to know (!) : Honey bees are colony-forming insects. A normal colony consists of a queen, about a thousand males (drones), and several thousand workers. I'll just talk about worker bees as they are the ones that make the honey that we are so interested in. Worker bees within a colony do jobs according to their age and the needs of their colony. Those under 2 weeks old clean the cells and feed the larvae. After this, some become house bees and work with honey, wax and pollen. House bees meet the nectar collecting bees ... Honey. Sickly sweet, with a taste I loathe. Honey, naturally self-preserving... ever seen mould on honey? I never have and I could grow mould for britain in my fridge or cupboards. About 8 or 9 years ago some honey was discovered in an ancient pyramid, it was still edible (that is of course if you ever thought it was an edible substance in the first place!). Honeymoon.... ever wondered where that expression comes from? Easy. Way back in biblical times, when men were men and women were property, part of a womans dowry would consist of barrels of mead (a honey liqueur), they didn't really count time in weeks and months in those days, more like from ... ~~~~~~~~ HONEY ~~~~~~~~~ Honey bees make honey from a water and sugar mix called nectar. They suck the nectar from flowers and plants and store it in their honey stomach until they reach the hive where it is passed to the worker bees. It is then chewed, broken down by enzymes and spread between the honeycombs. The water evaporates and the honey is sealed with wax, ready to be collected. Honey is delicious and used widely throughout the world. It can be used in cooking as well as salads and as a spread. Some people use honey for breakfast others use it as a glaze on their ham at christams time. But did you know that this delicious golden ... Read the complete review
