... .This somehow misleads you appearance wise to believe that you are really going to get the taste of both. The taste was just like a white bread and to be very candid I did not like the taste as it somehow conveyed a rather musty feeling. Moreover I could hardly spot any advantage of this being from a renowned brand. I tried it as sandwich and could tone down some squelchy effect but did not like the taste either. By this time I was wondering why it says combining the best of both as it failed in keeping up promises o...more

Premium Review Hovis Best of Both: Best of Both? (261 words)

I was surprised to see such a high opinion of this product as I really didnt enjoy eating it at all. I bought it recently basically because my housemate has a fondness for white bread, while I prefer brown so thought this would be something we could both enjoy as it was difficult getting through a whole loaf each in a week before it went off. Priced at £1.26, it has a pretty average price tag for loaves in general so nothing to complain about there. The bread itself however is not something I think I will be buying again. Basically, the selling point of this is that it is supposed to have all the goodness of wholemeal bread but its meant to taste ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review It's conceptual bread at it's finest! (481 words)

'Hovis Best of Both' takes the goodness of wholemeal bread and disguises it in white bread, what more could you ask for? For years children have hated the idea of wholemeal loaves, so now there's a way to ensure they eat healthily without them really noticing the difference! First of all, this loaf looks exactly like any normal white loaf, so you don't get put off if your not so keen on wholemeal loaves; the typical psychological barrier of seeing wholemeal and refusing to buy it is avoided! As you open the loaf you'll notice the fresh, spongy feel of the loaf that is full of goodness and is just waiting to be eaten. Sometimes, with cheap white ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Hovis Best of Both: A gimmick? A pretty good gimmick! (438 words)

I like wholemeal bread. Generally I am perfectly happy to eat it and have a clear conscience in that I know that it is supposed to be better for me with it's high fibre and will keep me satisfied for longer. (Yawn, yawn!) But sometimes, I just feel like having white bread. White toast with "lashings" of proper butter. Now, this is hardly the biggest culinary or dietary sin, but, these days it can feel as though the health police follow you around the supermarket, and I have even found myself looking apologetically at complete supermarket strangers having sneakily put a loaf of Super Toasty in my trolley. So Hovis have come up with the idea of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review OKay, who put the brown flour into the white bread mix? (381 words)

Hovis Best of Both is a gimmicky bread that combines white bread with brown bread, and does so with a diegree of success. I was unsure at first whether I would like this bread, and perhaps the combo of the two flours wouldn't work together, but it's surprisingly nice and tasty. Perhaps this has a lot to do with the quality of Hovis in general. No doubt Tesco Value Best of Both would be a bit of a disaster should they decide to do it, but there is some careful baking being put to the test here, with the combination of the flour and the baking being able to make the taste of both breads come through. In a way, what you don't get is a definitive new ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Hovis Best of Both: Hovis - Giving you & your little ones the best of both white ... (405 words)

Hovis Best Of Both is white bread which has some of the goodness of wholemeal bread and the main purpose of this bread is to be able to get your children to eat bread which is better for them without them realising that it contains part of a wholemeal loaf. As most children seem to detest wholemeal bread I think that this is a fantastic idea and it's for this reason that my sister occasionally purchases this bread. The bread comes packaged in a polythene bag with a neck seal towards the end of the bag which shows you the best before date of the bread as well as helping to keep the bag sealed and the bread fresh. This bread comes in two sizes; thick ...  Read the complete review
