HP 'Original' Sauce has been part of my life as far back as I am able to remember, and is routinely placed on our table every mealtime, in much the same way as the salt and pepper. The "Original" tag is a relatively new invention, in order to distinguish it from the 'fruity' and other varieties of sauces that HP Foods in Birmingham now manufacture. This brown sauce has been around since the turn of the 20th century, (1899 to be exact) and is liable to still be around at the turn of the 22nd, such is its popularity in the hearts and minds (not to mention the palates) of the average person in the British Isles. (Not to mention Ireland!!) ... Read the complete review

For all of my life I have always been someone who has to have sauce with everything because I feel without something to dip chips, potatoes etc in it just feels like it is missing something. The thing is everyone has a preference you either love Tomato Ketchup or you love Brown Sauce. Now, for me I used to personally love tomato ketchup with everything I wouldn’t have brown sauce anywhere apart from at the chip shop with my chips because they never offered tomato ketchup in Scotland. However, since being down in England I started having ‘bacon butties’ all of the time and these just don’t seem right to me without a lot of brown sauce. I then became a brown sauce addict ... HP Sauce is of Brummie origin being a recipe devised by Edwin Samson Moore who founded the Midlands Vinegar Company in 1875. I started using it sometime after that date and have never looked back since. In many ways it has become a traditional condiment of British cuisine - a thing to be missed when stranded upon distant shores. The sauce is made from malt vinegar, tomatoes, onion extract, salt and other various spices. It is a thick golden brown tangy mixture that can be dripped, with the help of gravity and a smack or two to the bottom of the upturned bottle, onto a wide variety of foods. Alternatively it can be expertly placed in a neat blob on the side of ... Read the complete review

I am staying up my mums for a week or so looking after the house while they are all on holiday so I'm raiding their cupboards and trying new foods. I made myself a bacon butty yesterday but wanted some sort of sauce so opened up their sauce cupboard to have a nose. There right in front of my eyes was HP Sauce - otherwise known as brown sauce by myself. HP Sauce comes in a see through plastic bottle with a flip up lid for you to squirt the sauce out of. The sticker around the bottle is a pale blue colour with navy blue and bright red HP logo too. This sauce contains; No artificial colours No artificial preservatives No artificial ... It's not often I eat bacon but when I do decide to have a sandwich I'm rather particular about how the sandwich should turn out. Of course the bacon needs to be crispy, the bread white and preferably from a fresh loaf and you will need a sauce to dampen the sandwich a little. My sauce of choice for bacon has always been HP Sauce and for me no other brown sauce will do. It's the thickness of the sauce that does it for me, the tanginess of it as it mingles with the smoked bacon and hits my taste buds and simply because it has the very best flavour of all the sauces on the market to compliment a hot bacon sandwich. When you first open the ... Read the complete review
