Advantages: Delicious

Disadvantages: The usual unhealthy crisp

So on today's menu, to accompany the toasted ham and cheese sandwich, are a packet of BBQ flavoured Hula Hoops. I was partly bemused that DooYoo did not host a product page for them, but at least they have a Hula Hoops page. Problem solved!

You can pick them up individually, or in packs of 7 (yes, 7), or in multi-packs of Hula Hoops...often along with the original Salted flavour and Roast Chicken (yes, that flavour crops up in another of my reviews!) at around about £1.20.

Made by KP snacks, who are perhaps more famous for making nuts, the first thing which strikes you about the BBQ Beef flavour is the really meaty taste. There's certainly no holding back from the manufacturers in an attempt to make a tasty crisp. They're crunchy and something you can really get your teeth into...with inevitably some of them getting stuck between your teeth!

Now, I'm not entirely certain if they're suitable for vegetarians, as during my 'research' for this review, I received no comprehensive answer from the Internet, so to make up your own opinion, here's the ingredients as followed...

Potato (Potato Starch & Dried Potato), Sunflower Oil (28%), Rice Flour, Barbecue Beef Flavour [Wheat Flour, Flavourings, Dried Onion, Acidity Regulator: Sodium Diacetate, Dried Tomato, Vegetable Oil, Flavour Enhancers: E635, E631, E627; Colour: Paprika Extract, Yeast Extract, Lactose, Mustard Oil, Dried Whey, Maltodextrin, Tartaric Acid], Maize Flour, Flavouring (Contains Potassium Chloride), Flavourings.

Nothing there strikes but as 'meat', but I can't tell you what the majority of those things are!

And here's the nutritional info...

Typical values for each bag:

Energy - 128kcal
Protein - 0.9g
Carbohydrate - 15.1g
Fat - 7.1g
of which saturates - 0.7g
Fibre - 0.5g
Sodium - 0.2g

And seeing as this is a product page on "Hula Hoops", rather than just the BBQ Beef flavour, for those of a pedantic mind-set, here's a few details about the brand...

- They were first introduced in 1973.
- In the UK there is now a new variety made with corn, called 'Hula Hoops Tortilla'. (Never seen them though!)
- Hula Hoops come in a small 25g foil pack.
- Made with 100% Sunflower Oil.
- No artificial flavours, colors or MSG.
- An average bag contains around 25-30 hoops.

And that's about as exciting as it gets! Not my words, but predominantly the words of Wikipedia...but back to the point, if you're a crisps connoisseur, much like I seemingly am, I would recommend the Hula Hoop, and my personal favourite, the BBQ Beef flavour. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: If you like your meaty crisps, tuck in!

I'm put off by the beef flavour! Love Hula Hoops though.
