      Very helpful

      Cheap and cheerful...and Nice!

I nearly didn't buy this because of its description of 'Extremely Creamy'. I don't like a creamy texture to an ice-cream. But I do however love Rum & Raisin ice-cream. So when I saw this ice-cream at 2 for £2.00 at Iceland, I thought that even if I didn't like it, it was no great loss at the price that I paid for it. Iceland is cheap and cheerful, and by their advertising, appeal to the family on a bit of a budget. They offer good food at extremely competitive prices. They have some very good deals and some very nice food also, which boasts non GM ingredients. They just have unfortunate advertising and for me seeing the awful Kerry Katona (Croft) stuffing her face doesn't exactly make me want to rush out and shop there. Iceland does have excellent choice and prices, though their shops do need seriously revamping and updating to bring them in line with the 21st Century. -

The ice cream is packaged in an oval plastic tub of 1 litre. It is colourful and upon the top pictures the flavour of the variety inside. In this case it is the Rum & Raisin which is shown as 4 large scoops of succulent ice cream which is packed with the plump raisins and laced with the lush chocolate sauce. This ice cream contains no hydrogenated fats, no artificial colours, flavours, or preservatives. It also has no GM ingredients. It is recommended that you keep it frozen. It is described on the carton as' ice cream that is composed of creamy textured rum flavoured ice cream with raisins and chocolate sauce'. There is a yellow flash which states that this a NEW flavour to the 'Extremely Creamy' range.-

The aroma from the ice cream is very strong and has a real rum punch to it. It certainly smells as good as a more expensive brand. It is rich and full bodied and it really activates the taste buds. As I put the spoon into the ice cream to scoop a sample up I notice that this 'Extremely Creamy' ice cream is in fact nice and hard and icy. I was afraid that this was going to be really soft and creamy, but it is in fact a good solid consistency. My first impression on taste is that it has a good depth of taste and the rum flavouring comes through very strong, giving the ice cream a good and realistic rum flavouring. The raisins are soft and plump and full of fresh flavour. What you get with the extra flavouring of chocolate is an undertone of taste which doesn't dominate the main flavour. I could have done without this actually as I am not keen on chocolate but as I said it really is only a small taster of chocolate which follows the Rum & Raisin as a short lived additional ingredient.-

      ~~ SUMMARY ~~

I was very impressed with this ice cream. I expected less of it. It was totally delicious and the rum flavouring was excellent as were the plump juicy raisins. I shall have to try some of the other varieties in the range. I adore Haagan Dazs, but there are some times when the purse just won't stretch to it. I love ice cream and for £1.00 this isn't too bad at all, I really enjoyed it actually. The 'creaminess' comes into effect after it has been in the bowl for a while, but it is lovely and icy when you first serve it up. Another excellent buy from Iceland, which gave a good few servings. Definitely recommended 100%; with or without their dreadful adverts. -
