Advantages: Really lovely flavour

Disadvantages: Not so good for dunking

The wonderful thing about biscuits (apart from their potential to be very tasty) is that they come in all shapes and sizes, and from all corners of the world.

'Havreflarn' are Swedish oat biscuits (sometimes referred to as 'oat crisps') which are truly delicious. Strangely enough, I got a packet of these from Ikea in Southampton, and I have no recollection of the price - I've tried looking them up on the net, but the only Ikea website that actually claims it sells Havreflarn is the Chinese one - so an 125kg box of these little beauties costs 10.50 Yuan!

Description & Taste

The biscuits themselves are round (but not perfectly formed), thin, and extremely crunchy. On first bite, I thought they were merely 'OK', but it's the sort of taste that really grows on you, and before long you realise that the word 'moreish' is perfectly suited to these Swedish wonders. Actually, my presumption that they are Swedish comes solely from the fact that they are sold in Ikea - so they may well be from somewhere else - although I can't research that either as Wikipedia has no mention of Havreflarn - they really are mystery biscuits.

The taste is sweet, but not sickly, and is actually reminiscent of toffee popcorn - which is never a bad thing. The consistency is very crunchy, but due to their thin nature, they don't fall into the category of 'teeth-breakers'.

On the downside, Havreflarn aren't very absorbent, so dipping them in a cup of tea (as I usually enjoy doing with my biscuits) is not best suited to these particularly tasty morsels.

If you ever find yourself in Ikea, look out for these biscuits, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Due to their delicious taste and crunchy nature, they really are worth investing in - although going all the way to China to buy them may be a little extreme :)
