Advantages: Great design and taste

Disadvantages: None

I used to love iced Gems as a kid and I can remember waiting for my mam to come home from shopping to see if she had bought them for me. My parents were never a fan of these, which was great for me as I got to have them all. I can remember eating all of the icing bits first and then moving on to the biscuit base. It is now funny to see my daughter enjoying them and eating them in the same was as I did. Funnily enough I'm not so crazy about them now.

The description:

Iced gems are made by Jacob's, the same company that makes the famous crackers. A pack of iced gems comes in a blue and white bag with a picture of a cool bear on the front holding some of the iced gems. The bag is sized at 25g and contains all the nutritional information as well as a small game where you can calculate the Gems value, depending on colour.

The Gems:

The base of an iced Gem is no bigger than a 5 pence piece. It is light in colour and it made from crunchy biscuit. On top of each biscuit is hard icing in the shape of a Gem. The Gem colours range from purple, white and yellow and the flavours are lemon, blackcurrant, iced and raspberry.

The taste:

I think the reason kids enjoy these is due to the pretty design and the icing. Being an adult now, these aren't something I would reach for as a snack. The bags are nice sized and are great to be used in lunch boxes instead of crisps they add something different and satisfy a sweet tooth too. I would advise thought, just like the crackers, these can become quite dry while eating so it is recommended to keep a drink at hand.

The price:

I purchase these from a small shop and they are usually £1.10 for a pack of 6.

Overall:

These are great for kids and offer something different than a chocolate bar or crisps. The Gem design is fun and they are tasty. I would definitely recommend these.

Summary: fun snack for kids
